Montreal Canadiens signed Tyler Toffoli (4 Years / $4,250,000 AAV)
Montreal is officially a 1-Year all or nothing team.
All these guys need contracts before next year:
1. Kotkaniemi
2. Gallagher
3. Danault
4. Tatar
5. Armia
6. Lehkonen
7. Hudon
8. Mete
9. Backup
While these guys are hoarding all the money:
$10,500,000 = Price
- $8,000,000 = Weber
- $6,200,000 = Petry
- $5,500,000 = Drouin
- $5,500,000 = Anderson
- $4,200,000 = Toffoli
- $3,500,000 = Edmundson
- $3,500,000 = Chiarot
- $3,500,000 = Byron
- $2,000,000 = Kulak
- $2,000,000 = Alzner (BO)
So that's $54,500,000 committed to 10 players.
With only $27,000,000 left for the other 14.
With 4 of their 5 best forwards unsigned.
There will be a mass exodus next year.

(MTL/CBJ) - Domi + 2020 3rd round pick for Anderson
From the start I've been saying this is a fair trade. This was one of my favorite ideas on the site. But habs fans kept advertising Domi as something he isn't. The most overrated player on this website has been moved for a package he is legitimately worth.
This feels great. After all those months of habs fans yelling at me for what they said was a bad take.... it warms my heart. Humble your strong personalities, MTL.
As to the deal itself - its a win win. Overrated players aside, MTL gains physical presence and a need on RW. CBJ gains a middle six center. Both are risk players. Both gain something. Domi isn't worth a hair more.

159 people think Columbus won, 8 people think Montreal won...

Look at any of Bergevin's trades and you will see he gets outvoted on nearly all of them.
Domi is 5'10" and wasn't a physical player on Montreal.

Quoting: Hockeylover360

Montreal had like 14 picks at one point.

That's besides the point. You will lose leverage in the signing. Look at Kevin Hayes last year who also got a 5th. He signed a 7-year contract worth $7.142M! MTL doesn't have the edge In leverage.

Yeah i seriously doubt Cam Fowler is in Montrels future, And take more then Tatar+3rd to get him out of Anaheim. A 29 year old Tatar does Anaheim no good if they're looking towards a rebuild here,

Try this
Drouin is out for 7+ weeks, Byron out 3-5 weeks, Teasdale out until mid-March. Also Lehkonen on the 4th line is crazy and all lines & pairings other than the 3rd & 4th lines have been used multiple times already.

are we all forgetting about inflation, players ask for more and more each year and this is probably a steal when kevin hayes is signed for similar money.

He was drafted 1st overall two years ago and suddenly 7.25 is too steep of a contract.
Cant wait to come back to this thread in two years and laugh at the people saying its high

They aren't paying him on what he's done, they're paying him on what they think he can do. I imagine they think he'll take a huge leap playing on a healthy team with Phil Kessel, and that would probably make him ask for way more.
Teams should be more aggressive with getting start players locked up in advance of their RFA season. I like this deal.

Keller Deal
I can see that happening. Especially if he gets another 60+ point season under his belt. It's a little expensive, but he is a key piece to their future and could break out for 70+ point seasons. if they went for a bridge deal and he did, it would end up costing them more.

(VGK/NJD) - Gusev for 2020 3rd RD pick and 2021 2nd RD pick
New Jersey having themselves an off season. Hughes, Subban, gusev for practically nothing. This is why cap space is important and you shouldn't waste it on Tyler Myers, JIM.

Very little downside here when you look at the Devils cap space. This trade and subsequent contract just illustrates the value of cap space and how teams like the Devils can leverage it to acquire players at a bargain. Teams like EDM are being held hostage by their cap situation and become stuck near the bottom of the standings.

If he continues to do what he did last year (before the injury), he will be one of the first call ups.

I would be very surprised if he is on the habs roster come start of the season (either traded or put on waivers).

Claude hates young players. Absolutely hates young players especially ones that dont backcheck well. See Ryan Spooner as example A.
