Offseason Series - PREDS
The Preds brought in Lauzon for 2nd. He's done nothing to decrease his value since he came to the Preds so I struggle to see why they'd trade him for anything less than what they gave up.

Preds pass. Glass still has upside and upgrading a 3rd to a later 2nd doesn't justify swapping him for Acciari. Acciari's contract is two years too long and he has no real value to the Preds. Take out the 3rd on Nashville's side and Acciari and they might consider it

Goaltender change
You're gonna have to give up more than that if you're dumping Korpisalo's god awful contract on the Preds. If Saros is going with a very reasonable extension in place there's no reason the return wouldn't be exorbitant. A first maybe covers dumping Korpi. Then you look at the rest of the package and it's nothing great. It's gonna cost Ottawa a good prospect. Tyler Boucher is not gonna do anything for the Preds. We have enough wings in the prospect pool.

He has 2 more points in 7 less games, that's not a ton. My point still stands the difference between the two isn't enough to move Forsberg out of Nash when you consider their contracts and fit with the team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>I think an extension would be in place with Marner, but this trade doesn't make sense for either team as TO doesn't need Saros and Marner>Forsberg so there's no point in adding Hirvonen and NSH needs Saros...
I think a better deal would be MM (with extension)+2 4rth for Forsberg+Fabbro (with extension)+2027 1st+mid prospect
Comp is here M. Tkachuk
Forsberg = Huberdeau (Hubby was coming off an 115 point season)
Fabbro<</div></div>
While I understand your comparison and trade evaluations Nash still wouldn't touch that deal. Whatever Marner's extension comes in at would be over 10 mil easily. I would rather pay Forsberg 8.5 for the next 6 then whatever Marner would look to make, probably over 11mil if we're being honest for the next 8. And it's definitely not worth adding a 1st and Fabbro. The difference in production of Forsberg and Marner isn't enough to consider giving up other pieces of the roster or futures. Marner has 76 points this year and Forsberg has 74. Forsberg has also played in every game this year and is one of the more clutch scorers tied for the lead in the NHL in overtime and game winners, He also has more playoff experience. He also plays with an edge and frequently uses his bigger frame to push other players around. Marner is a great player, but not worth losing Forsberg. An extension doesn't change the fact that he's already paid too much and will look to make just as much going forward, whereas Forsberg is on a very fair deal which is easier to build around going forward

That Nashville trade is insulting. Marner is good, but his contract expires after next year and God knows what he's looking to get paid. Forsberg is signed to a reasonable deal for the next 6 years and is producing well. So I wouldn't swap Forsberg for Marner 1 for 1. Hirvonen and a 2026 1st don't get you Saros. If Toronto wanted to get Saros or Forsberg it would start with Knies, Minten or Cowan. No way around that

Possible goalie solution NJ
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Element23VM</b></div><div>To think that Nashville is going to get a lot more than this for Askarov at this point is going to surprise a few people should he get moved.
It doesn't make sense for Nashville to keep both goaltenders but they're in no hurry, so some of you are correct in that you have to be enticed... that's true.
What, however, is not calculated, is how many other targets there are that drives down your price, and you want to sell when the selling is good. This is what NJ would offer and not more than this. They're going to make the rounds until they get the right goalie *at the right price*</div></div>
I understand your thinking on the first two points to a degree. Where I think you're wrong is the number of targets available driving down his price. There are no targets like Askarov. The guys you're talking about are older and declining. Askarov has his whole career in front of him and the only good comparable would be Wallstedt. His price is what it is because if he's available he's a unicorn. Fitzy has his price he wants to pay and that's fine. Trotz has his and he won't budge. We have something NJ wants and Trotz isn't going to cave because he's selling something that doesn't have to be sold and he has the bargaining power.

Nashville declines. Nothing in this package is worth giving up a future starter in net. Even if Askarov never reaches his ceiling, his floor is a starter. You'd have to send something that's hard to turn down to get him out of Nashville

Nashville declines. McDonagh is surprisingly still somewhat productive at his age, and his contract ends sooner. His contract is also much more moveable in the last year. No reason to swap him for a declining middle six winger

Nashville would never do that. Even if they wanted to make a playoff push next year they won't be spending futures like that on an older player with only 1 year left. Even this deadline Trotz added pieces using very late picks and picked up a 3rd by trading Trenin. He won't be trading one of the better young Center prospects we have and two 2nds for Nelson

That wouldn't surprise me I remember seeing somewhere Trotz mentioning he wants guys to learn how to win down there and bring that experience to the NHL.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gmgb</b></div><div>I've never really thought of Trenin as a streaky player, when it comes to scoring. I think it boils down to linemates and usage more than anything. Sure he produced more on the Herd line, but Hynes gave them a lot more opportunity to score. He usually used them as his starting line.</div></div>
Trenin has been very streaky his whole career. Just this year he had an 11 game span where he had 8 points of which 6 were goals. He then went on to only record two points in the next 20 games, not to mention he didn't record a point until the 15th game of the season. His scoring comes in bunches and then disappears for long stretches. Linemates and all that for sure has affected him, but he's always been like this. Even under Hynes and now under Brunette. Still a very reliable PKer and defensive forward just lacked the consistent scoring to make him someone worth trying to retain long term.

Trenin maybe, but what could Trotz realistically get for him? A 3rd and maybe a B-C prospect at most?</div></div>
Yeah I would think this means he's leaning towards trading Trenin and then it could be looked at more like Trenin + 5th for Beau + 3rd or whatever the return is for Trenin.
Love Trenin but I feel like he's probably asking for too much on his next contract. He's a great defensive forward, but the fact that he's so streaky when it comes to scoring it's hard to imagine signing him long term

Completely agree, this seems like he liked Beau from his time in NYI, and wanted to give him a chance here. It wasn't a big price to pay, but again blocks the path to the NHL for the talented guys in Milwaukee

Askarov absolutely is not available. The fanbase would turn on trotz so fast if he chose to ride with Saros and trade away one of the best goaltending prospects outside of the NHL. It's a no brainer that Askarov is the future of Nashville's goaltending. He's 21 and Saros is 28. As much as I love Saros, if we're trading a goalie it won't be Askarov

That offer is well below the reported asking price from Trotz, and at this point he won't trade Saros unless someone meets it. Saros will either be dealt in the offseason or they'll come to terms on an extension

It's more a conditioning thing than the system itself. Some of the older guys on the team frequently looked winded and slow earlier in the year adjusting to the pace of Brunette's system. Either way I don't think he's a fit for Nashville this TDL

Not really. It's headlined by Edmonton, Dallas, Vancouver, Vegas, and Colorado. Love the Preds none of these moves put us above them or even really on the same level. We've bounced back into the playoff picture because we haven't been changing our lines and our depth is clicking. The only thing I'd maybe add is a secondary scorer to replace Jankowski on the 2nd line, but not someone like Tarasenko who's a pure rental. Nashville exceeded expectations this year, and Trotz knows that. Part of the issue for me is also the time it's taken for players to get adjusted to Brunette's system. I don't think these rentals are going to be stepping into a situation where they'll be able to catch on immediately, and contribute in a meaningful way.

I'd be beyond stunned if Nashville spent this much at the TDL on rentals. Trotz is a 1st year GM, but he's not a moron. He won't be selling off so many futures the first year of his tenure
