<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Greed</b></div><div>100% a misclick there from me, Smith would only get one year at that cap hit.
The problem is that OEL has 0 value based on his season last year, and teams know that going into negotiations. In order to get rid of him, they are gonna have to take on a bad contract. I think Neal would be the contract they take, as their Goaltending is already locked up. Their only payoff would be Lagesson as someone that could play in OEL's place on the bottom pair, and has upside to improve (not much but its there, hes young). Maybe you can add a 4th - 7th round pick in there, but I doubt the Oilers give up anything more in value.
For the Philly deal, the difference is that one has a contract and the other does not. I think Patrick is probably the better player, but he doesn't have a contract. Overall it should be an even 1 for 1 at this point. Though i agree that Philly can use him in a different deal for sure. Also I agree that Landeskog most likely is not coming to Edmonton, but I had the cap space in this mock to get him, so here's hoping!</div></div>
OEL is still a top 4 dman and will cost as much especially retained and ask philly fans I’m sure they’ll say they want Bear instead. Also OEL contract is to long I think for us to take on

Blackhawks get Koskinen who can help fellow don Lankinen, and Caleb Jones is a nice young defenseman whos ready for a full time role but the oilers have multiple young dmen and need a vet. True but a guy who plays in all situations and was on the top pairing and if you actually watch him play then you know he still is.

So to give them a somewhat bad contract and a decent young defenseman, I feel makes it a bad trade for the oilers.</div></div>
Ah understandable, my logic was as I responded to another comment about how Keith can help the Oilers and at the same time dumping Koskinen contract would give them more money this year to take a run at someone

Disagree Keith at less than 3 mill is a terrific deal. Yes he’s turning 38 but he still played about 23 minutes a game for the hawks and would be a great mentor for Bear and Bouchard. He’s not the defenseman he once was but can slot in nicely on that second pairing with his strong two way game

Keith to Oil Country
If Keith comes to Edmonton after the expansion draft you send a draft pick back and they retain, if it’s before you send a pick and they retain or you send Jones and they retain maybe they’ll take neal with Jones for him and retain them buyout neal but I don’t see it

I’d say Bear and a retained Miller are almost the same and we like lavoie but lavoie and a second is probably about just for rfa rights maybe still a little short and then Bjork is worth more. But yea we’d take this and run

I just meant that khaira would be a cheap depth option instead of bringing back bellemare

Vying for Top of the West
Always appreciate your insights. Really interested by the Islanders trade and think that would be a great move for the Oilers. I wonder if Kessel would want to come to Edmonton but if so would love to have him he should score you 20 plus every year. I do have a hard time believing NYI or ARI is that all it takes but love the roster. Also think Tatar may be more realistic then Schwartz

Oil Off-Season trying something new
I think McGinn would need about 3 mill to leave Carolina in favour of Edmonton and I don’t think we get Coleman. Also think getzlaf stays in Anaheim or heads to vegas but good ideas. I’m gonna focus on the OEL trade I don’t know a ton about jesse fling but think the first has to be enticing I don’t think you need to retain on neal and Arizona should be able to retain 25 percent tbh I think they might say broberg to start a conversation in which case I would no longer be interested unless it’s like broberg and neal and they retain 25 percent

Detailed explanation and some interesting ideas. I don’t think you have enough for OEL personally I don’t think he’s a good move for the Oilers but he’s still a top 4 defenseman vs neal who’s been a healthy scratch and a bottom 6 forward when in and lagesson who is probably just a third pairing defenseman. I also think you need to add to get Patrick, feel like Philly sends him to ANH for Manson or CLB in a Jones package. Also no way we get Landeskog. That being said I enjoyed the read and the perspective, and could be some ideas
