Noted. I just picked the Flames as a potential trade target given they have 2 RD under contract and might want a cheaper option for a third RD. If not, that's fine. I'm sure another team would take him at that price.

I think it's going to be a lot harder than you think to move Muzzin with his NTC, and your return on Nylander and Robertson is downright criminal.

They lost to the two time Champs barely, and the bolts are presently dummying the president trophy winners. I wouldn't say they're hurting. And with Kadri back where he's not centering a team with Tyler bozak as their first line center while still bein paid first line money, i dont think itd be as tough as a sell as youre making it out to be. But it's all moot. We aren't actual gm's and I'm not a close confidant of Kadri

That's a pretty bold statement. He still obviously loves the city after his most recent players tribune. Loved playing for Toronto. There may be some bad blood there with Dubas but I suspect it'd be water under the bridge to go from one contender to another.

Time savings honestly. Was running out the door. I'd be trading them away which could obviously result in roster changes but ran out of time to think about them.
You're right about Kadri just like the other guy was. I worked out what I'd likely do with Kadri in my other response. Could also do my theorized Gibson trade to save a million and still make his deal 7 million.

You're likely right. I was in a hurry to get out the door before reviewing this in earnest. But if they don't sign Spezza, and squeeze half a mil off somewhere else like 1 year less with liljegren, they could make kadri's offer 7 million.
At that value, I change the lines to be Nylander, Kadri, Tavares and put Kampf down to the third line again.

Yeah I ran out of time while doing this to bother trading the ltir guys. At one point I was thinking a trade of two firsts, mrazek and a prospect for Gibson with 3 mil retained but hadn't put much thought into it yet.

That Wennberg contract is pretty bad, can’t see if getting that high an AAV.
You want Mikheyev gone and Simmonds on the PK? Rielly with Holl?
There is a lot that needs changing on here</div></div>
heh, I definitely looked at his total money earned instead of AAV when determining what to sign him for. Adjusted accordingly considering age/performance. The actual pairings weren't meant as 'this is the way they're deployed' for the most part. Just fitting in dollars. I re-allocated mis-spent cap on Wennberg to Hyman and kept Mikheyev even though I think he's making himself more and more expendable given Galchenyuk's ability to perform better with the Tavares line.

None of you are wrong. It doesn't /need/ to be wennberg, and like some have said, if they can pry him away for 3.5-4.5 the remainder goes to Hyman. I have nothing against Kerfoot and have never thought he was paid too much personally, but with that being said I also think that makes him the obvious choice for Seattle. My reasoning behind Mikheyev going is just cause he's striking me as another Kappy. Great speed, not much of a playmaker, can't seem to finish on the Leafs. Would he do better if he weren't being relied on as a playmaker? Maybe, but do the leafs have the time to wait for that to happen? Maybe not. Simmonds was already signed to a cheap contract, so my assumption was he's a player the leafs wanted and therefore wouldn't be traded.

The problem with trading him is that nobody seems to want him and his 2M cap hit for three years. Maybe sweeten the pot a bit and send him to Detroit?</div></div>
Completely understand this. It was me throwing away the cap. I'm sure someone would take him for next to nothing. Maybe a swap of a 3rd for a fourth or something.,

And with the available players out there, many team might sign a UFA before trading up for a high salary.
It's getting bad in TO!</div></div>
I don't think anyone was under the illusion that Toronto would be icing anything more than a 20 man roster. That being said, any injury will just result in that person likely going on LTIR and someone being called up with the cap space freed up by that. I don't really see a problem with it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JRoss</b></div><div>I’d like to know what those seasoned experts said. Lol.</div></div>
Corey Masisak’s take (Devils beat writer): Severson was the Devils’ best defenceman this past season, has three years left on a reasonable contract and is young enough to still be good when New Jersey is ready to be a contender again. Put all of that together and the Devils are going to need a substantial return to move him. Dermott is three years younger, so he would fit a timeline centered around Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes better, and has been played pretty well as a young defenceman on a strong team. And the Devils don’t have a 2020 second-round pick, so that could be enticing.
Two concerns I could see the Devils having: 1) Dermott is the same size as fellow lefties Will Butcher and Ty Smith, though his style of game might be different enough for that to not matter. 2) Do they believe in Dermott’s upside? He’s played 17 minutes per game for the Leafs, with some instances of getting more responsibility because of injuries. If the Devils’ primary goal is to add more young, good players to build around Hischier and Hughes, then this offer could be tempting. Though I could also see the Devils feeling like it is an “almost there, but not quite enough” kind of offer as well, especially because Severson could put up better numbers playing for Lindy Ruff and increase his value.

Seems reasonable. I was honestly just looking for a young winger on the cheap that performed relatively well that could be exchanged for someone with more experience and proven worth. It's entirely possible it doesn't work, but I'm sure it's work with someone

Swap johnsson and holl then and add an extra pick for Calgary to make up the difference. You might not value anything on the leafs but a scoring winger that had an off year due to an injury on the cheap for assets you aren't even using should accomplish the goal.

I don't recall saying jersey was retaining anything.. and you're still getting a solid, younger LD with a lot of upside when given opportunity. There's always alternative trade options but Id say the value is there with the opportunity to sign Dermott for cheap.

I don't know if "hate the Oilers" has anything to do with this. Pool party hasn't played in the show for over a year, and was suspect to begin with in Edmonton. In this trade you get a decent shutdown defenceman in exchange for a guy that has not lived up to his potential and may never.

I would've thought a solid starter that isn't yet searching for UFA dollars like the other goalies in the market and a good wi get in return wouldn't be a terrible return for an up and coming winger and a 3rd. You're still getting proven youth in return for potential. Lighten Freddie's load with a decent backup and I suspect you get better results.
