TJ Likely Retires
Retired players don't go LTIR. Very, very rarely do players retire if owed 5m. Now if he's medically unfit, then he's LTRIUR.

Isles if Aggressive
Sens don't have the cap or the desire for 5m Pageau. Cheaper better options as UFA.
Five years of 5.8m 30 year old Pelech, doesn't age well/. Cheaper better options as UFA.

Just as good goalies as UFAs which cost nothing to obtain. Is Sorokin THAT special? We will know better in 2033 when his contract is over

This "find a partner" for Reilly has been kinda of silly statement for years. Strange, Luybushin is plus five this playoffs, playing with Marner a lot. There are RHD available in free agency.

Pens would have to send someone to the Leafs to make the cap work for them.....a 20 man roster isn't practical. Yeah one year of Smith might do .
Marner rejects unless he has an extension in place.

Gee, you got more from the no leverage Chychrun from the Jets than what you gave up for Marner.
Seems like you just "made something up" as fact. Leafs certainly haven't made it clear they are making chances to their NMC core four in 24/25. Fans on websites might, but no way Leaf management has. Heck this season they extended Nylander.

No team should want Sorokin for eight years. Are the Leafs trying to tank? Four rookies who shouldn't be on the team in October, and one who may not make the AHL

Leafs wo marner
No thanks to 33 year old Schenn for four years.....even Parayko for six years is iffy.
Leafs spend aren't spending on 6m on a goalie....especially if means trading Minten and a 1st away.
Another totally impractical 20 man roster with just six NHL Dmen.

I'll agree with your scenario, that maybe Hedman accepts a trade to get a long term deal from another team. But he has no motivation to "be a mentor". He'll want to play on a true contender, well if sees that as Montreal, then OK.

Todd McLennan? No thanks. A lot better ways to spend 6m on a goalie. Leafs certainly aren't trading Minten.

No thanks. He's great on controlling youngsters who are employed by him, but dealing with adults......Hunter doesn't want that.
By your lineup, the Leafs shouldn't be tanking. They don't have any picks in the first four rounds in 2025.

Looking at the UFA list, I would say there are 10 goalies I would prefer over Elvis...cheaper, better, and don't cost anything to acquire. Don't get got up on "starting goalie". All goalies who start the game or starting goalies. And the Leafs have Woll

Nothing in for the Leafs in the Pens trade as the Leafs make a Cup run. Why does M NTC Kampf have Coyotes are any team with cap on his trade list?

If we move marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NJTM</b></div><div>We don’t. There’s no room for another big money forward on the devils, there are four already. That’s an expensive price to pay for a one year rental who has a history of being difficult on contract negotiations. That’s not a problem id like the devils to inherit. They have to extend both Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec in the next 26 months. There’s no room to fit Mitch Marner in there too.</div></div>
Thanks for this. Over the years we have this silly posts where a high priced player is traded to a team (in this case New Jersey). But do we ever see the post of the team receiving the high priced player....rarely.

Leafs have no need for Saros long term. Same with McDonagh. Marner doesn't sign that contract obviously.

The Leaf don't or need a 4m goalie especially Elvis. There are better cheaper goalies as UFAs.
Why would Marner waive to Coyotes especially in contract year.?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMDannyB</b></div><div>Would love to hear ur opinion on all of the UFAs that are going to get similar contracts in FA this offseason. Are those also too chancy? Or is it cause Coots had back surgery that looked like it never even happened this year? What happens when Marchessault and Stamkos get paid? Or Tarasenko or Kane? Coots may not be as offensively gifted as any of those guys but do any of them have a Selke trophy?</div></div>
There certainly is a big difference in free agency isn't there. In this post, the Canucks had to give trade 4.9m Garland for 6m (retained) Couts. What's the point for the Canucks. Most Dmen are really chancy when their contracts run into mid 30s,. Somewhat the same for most forwards, but one coming off back surgeory it's even more of a gamble
By the way, this season Tarasenko...got a one year contract for 5m. Kane coming off an injury 2.75m for one year. If Couterier what would he get as UFA this season.....a one year contract?
I think a guy like Marchessault will be overpaid by a team that has cap and needs goal scoring...maybe Montreal at 7m. Stamkos could get more, but think he looking at the right situation, 7m tops.

Really. Bunting at 4.5m had 55 points. Rakell at 5m is playing all games maybe 42 points.....which is below average his 50 points a year.
Turning 31 this week, he's not getting better. Overpaid on too much term.

Its time
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMDannyB</b></div><div>Let’s be real. Coots would still be a really good 2C. He looked really good up until February when he hit a wall which is pretty expected for playing 20+ minutes a night after missing 2 entire years. His only injury this year was a minor knock to his shoulder so he didn’t aggravate his back. He’s a great player and with the right retention would absolutely have a market.
This team is based in 2025-2026, if Coots plays the full 2024-2025 season with no major injuries and looks to be back to his old self there will be no injury questions with him being 2 years removed from being out.
If that happens and the Flyers are looking to move him next summer it won’t be if anyone is interested it will be how many teams are interested and what is the retention number that will make them interested.
U guys say Coots has no market then everyone makes 100 teams a day trying to trade Kampf and Reaves to any team on earth lol, a bit hypocritical don’t you think?</div></div>
U guys? If you read my posts, I've said countless times that M NTC Kampf is not tradable. Also Leafs keep Reaves as he doesn't hurt the cap if he is demoted to Marlies
Couts. 6m X 6 for soon to be 32 year old. is too chancy a contract., I differ with your opinion. IMO he's hitting the very soon.
