I can't imagine Dubois or Caufield signing a 6 year deal. I think for both of them it's kinda 3 or 8, with the implication that in 3 years you will have to pay a lot more since the cap will be up.
I also think it would be dangerous to sign RHP to a 1 year prove it season. If he proves it we will need to pay 3+ million, but today we can probably get him under contract for 3-4 years at under 2M.

That whole trade isn't worth it to me for other reasons, but Montembeault isn't worth anything near a 1st.
Full credit to him for playing as well as can be expected in a tough situation, he has definitely shown some improvement.
Not enough to sell me on his long term viability as a starter however.

Pretty decent value for Beau but I think NYI says no. I really think Lou is going to trade Beau for a top-4 LHD.

Add a good prospect like york, this trade is really bad for MTL. Petry gets at least a first in the low teens high 20s. Allen gets a second. A third rd pick is invlolved. And you are sending a cap dump and a mid prospect back. Add york for petry, and a second for taking JVR plus us giving you a third.

Wright and Lamoureux In The First Round
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Petry has positive value? LMAO :tearsofjoy The guy will be 35 next year and making over 6M for 3 more years, not to mention his clear decline this season. Gio was 35 when he won the Norris with 3 years left of term and I am quite confident nobody would have offered much at all for him then. Allen is an upgrade over Dreiger? Based on what? 1 season? Barron is a solid RD prospect, not amazing or anything but solid. Montreal went to the finals last year vs Tampa, how can you aren't high on Gourde? That's like saying you you don't think Danault is very good, whether he fits the Habs window or not does not take away from the player he is</div></div>
Just had to check what team you were a fan of and it doesn’t seem like there’s any reasoning with you. Petry returned to form under St. Louis and put up the same, if not better, numbers than he did last year when he garnered Norris votes, while playing on a way worse team who traded four good pieces away at the deadline. Considering the right D market lives and dies with Letang and Klingberg, some team will be left with a good top 4 d. Has Dallas ever shied away from a player because of his age? Does Philly even care about a player’s age as long as he can help them get better now? And I’m sure when Gio won the Norris the only thing you were thinking about was dumping the remainder of his contract because “oh my God he’s over 35!!!!!” Petry will return value, you’re just too set in your opinion and too stubborn to see that, and that’s okay, our arguments on this hockey site don’t affect anything in the nhl.
Allen has been a solid starter throughout his career. Dreidger was a backup for 35 games (35!!!!) on a very good Florida team and put up those numbers. How’d he do this year on the kraken? They were supposed to be solid defensively and still finished better in the standings than the Habs. Allen is 100% better and more proven than Dreidger.
Barron was the main piece in the Lehkonen trade, and Lehkonen was highly valued by the Canadiens and has been excellent for the avalanche. He’s a good d prospect who will stabilize the right side of the Canadiens top four for years to come.
Yes I saw how he performed on a stacked team in the Stanley cup final. He’s a nice player, but again, on a cup contending team he is a third line center. Montreal is anything but that. He’s making over $5 mil and is on the wrong side of 30. If Montreal wanted that they could’ve just paid Phil, who got a very similar contract. My argument here is that Montreal doesn’t make sense as a fit to trade for Gourde. Don’t get me wrong that he’s an excellent player on a contending team, but he’s not a top 6 center that I see people good trading prospects and picks to acquire.

Alright, though we’d rather have Cole Perfetti… switch Dillon with Perfetti… what’s that? Switching a veteran player that doesn’t fill the other team’s needs with a good prospect who will be a key part of your future doesn’t work for you?

Only two I would do are the Armia and Byron trades and their just to clear space. Byron you might have to send a pick with to get rid of though

I kind of like, but dislike the Jets trade. The Gallagher contract is a bit too long and pricey for my liking, but I like his style of play and could inject something into the Jets locker room they need, but I'm personal;ly leaning towards a decline because of his contract.

Drouin honestly I don't even know lol he has only 1 year left on his contract so a playoff team might want him for a draft pick.
Petry is having a bad year but he has still he a consistent top 4 D 40+pts over the last 4 years and was in Norris conversation last year, I think Gms know this isn't the real petry. Not saying they'll give up good assets for him but I also don't think he is a cap dump or worth only a 3rd rounder at most like some people are saying, MTL will likely be taking a contract back though.

I feel like the Islanders think long and hard before declining. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a little worry about the remaining term on JGP's deal after how he's played/struggled with injuries this year.
I think the returns on the Lehkonen & Chiarot trades are a little weak, too - Habs could probably draw a little more blood on both those deals.

I agree on the Isles part. I know Lou would probably want to go out and accept it but I think at the end of the day he would decline it in order to keep the team he's sort of built together.

Discussion Gardiens de but
I say that currently the canadiens just need to keep price and allen. however, primeau hopefully will be in the NHL in a few seasons as a backup, making allen expendable. then primeau works his way up to taking the starter role from price, and when price retires, one of montembeault, mcniven, dobes, or dichow become the backup

You know goaltender need more time and reach their full potential at 25...
Montembault, Primeau are fringe NHL... so hopefully in 2-3 years from now one of Dobes or Dochow would turn in a gems.
Until then... run after UFA or DeSmith, Domingue type of guy with one of Allen or Price</div></div>

Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek suspect that a Seth Jones deal for the #Blackhawks “starts with Dach” and involves a combination of Mitchell, a pick, and either of DeBrincat or Boqvist.
Now, don't get me wrong...I think that's an outrageously hilarious ask, but if it's true, this isn't close.
