Because Mete is on a minimum salary and is a capable NHL defensemen. Tampa may not have any choice. If no one took Johnson for free, they will have to just take what they can get to get under the cap.

Sorry no. only for this years 16th overall. Capfriendly just doesn't let you add the 2020 picks to any trades.

That trade with the Jets from a Habs perspective -> All day, every day. I just cant see it happening without a top prospect being included though. Although I would love it if they could pull it off

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FiveForFighting</b></div><div>They might ride him out and trade him at the TDL if they don’t want to pay him but Deangelo’s big mouth on Twitter and MAGA comments are a non-starter for an organization like the Canadiens. I see no chance of Bergevin being remotely interested in him, even he just had a really good season. Deangelo isn’t really loved amongst the Habs fan base.</div></div>
Ryan Poehling has shared his political views on social as well, yet I agree that history (ahem PK, Sergei Kostitsyn) shows that outspoken players don't fare well in Montreal.

I think he fits well, especially if the Habs move on from Petry next year. He will want a long term deal as its his last big chance to cash in, and I wonder if the 33 year old Petry is who the Habs want to invest in..

It’s true. Neither of those are moving from MTL. I wonder if the ask is too high for Laine, if WPG looks to move Ehlers or Connor instead. They have excess wingers and need help down the middle and on the back-end. I could see the above move being reworked for one of those guys. I think Domi at permanent C especially with strong wingers can get back to the 60-70 point range.

I think he could/should draw more assets but his poor playoffs and UFA status don’t help. I think he should get a first + but this would be an ok return for the Habs IMO

Laine is likely on his way out. What would it take to acquire him? Domi would give a solid second line centre who pushes the play along with Fluery who can play a bottom pair right d role where they have not much. The first and second are both high picks

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan89</b></div><div>Ummm, yeah they do. GMJR has already taken several calls on him. Fans are ridiculous and just absolutely insane on this site. One down year in the regular season and fans act like he is a 40 year old 10 million dollar cap dump that’s never played a good game in his life. He wasn’t even bad in the play-in round. Even including his sub .900 game 3 which wasn’t even his fault. He still posted a .914 save percentage. A 2.5 GAA. A .667 quality save percentage.</div></div>
Pens are in a tough spot because they are going to lose one in the expansion draft so teams know that. And is either guy a legit #1 or are both a 1b. Murray has two cups on his resume but I’m not convinced any teams see him as the guy to lead a team. IMO. Also, how do you know GMJR has taken calls on him?

Flames Col and STL moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jpsnow13</b></div><div>Of course you can burry contracts. Look it up...
Instead of answering questions you should ask yourself, Im going to tell you the future: Pietrangelo will hit the UFA market and sign elsewhere and blues will have plenty of capspace to renew other contracts.</div></div>
You can bury contracts but you don't save the full cap amount. Look it up:
What is a Buried Contract?
Teams do not receive full cap relief when a player on a one-way NHL contract is reassigned to the American Hockey League, or is loaned to a team in another professional league.
The players salary cap hit, minus the sum of the minimum NHL salary for the respective season and $375,000, still counts towards the team’s salary cap total.
The cap hit relief is therefore equal to the minimum salary of the respective season + $375,000
So burying Allen only saves about $1 million. You really do think AP leaves via free agency? It wouldn't be in line with with him and the Blues have indicated all along...but we know that can easily change so maybe. Agreed though, if he leaves STL will be ok with the cap. Still need to shed some money though.

Because they have Binnington and have major cap problems and can’t afford to sign AP and Dunn ($10-$12 mill total). And few teams need a starting G, and less need a $4 mill backup

Really? JG has another poor playoffs and it looks like the writing is on the wall. Domi also had an underwhelming playoffs but has more grit and less talent than JG. Mete could slot into too 6 when Brodie and TH leave in FA. And two good second rounders add to the haul.

Leddy is worth imo an early 4th with that pick moving up as more money is retained. Maybe isles can trade Leddy and Wilde (our best defensive prospect RHD) for something, not sure what gal is worth to MTL</div></div>
What about a Tatar for Leddy + something?
