Depth and experience for the playoffs
No way I am moving Fox and Dube for picks and Shaw..... We can get way more than that and would rather just keep them.

Nylander
I love this!! MIxed opinions! From both fan bases is this a deal that could happen? If so what do you think it should be with roster player vs. roster player and adding in picks and prospects. I don't want to give up good prospects either but at the end of the day Nylander is much younger and has more cap control...

Tavares
As much as I would love Tavares playing in Calgary it is looking less likely every day.... Either he will resign in New York or will get upto $15 million per season on the open market. I would do it at $10-12 million but teams like Vancouver or Montreal will pay more and that and will be cap crippling. Especially since the Flame need to resign Ferland, Tkachuk and Bennett the next year. Only way he signs here at a discount is if we make it far in the playoffs and he is more motivated to win it all than a huge paycheque.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>backtrack153</b></div><div>I just don't see why we would pay Riley Nash 3 million dollars to be our 4th line centre? Also I think Hornqvist would be great if he didn't have so many miles on his odometer, that would have every chance to be another Troy Brouwer contract, don't think it would be wise to bring in an older winger for 5 million bucks....
I think this team is set up pretty good right now and we need that 8 million for Bennett, Tkachuk, Ferland as the per the other poster ^, if we could add a guy like Ryan Hartman, Sam Reinhart, or Josh Anderson that compliment the roster thats an addition I'm on board with.
Cheers good thoughts though.</div></div>
Yeah I overpaid for Nash as I think he would be great 4th line center but might be better to wait for Dube. Hornquist makes me nervous too and probably won't happen as your right he might not have alot in the tank. I would rather somehow get Brady Tkachuk but that seems like a pipe dream.

At the end of the year Smith with be gone, buyout Brouwer and trade Stone and potentially Brodie depending on the young guys coming up. With the cap going up hopefully should not be a problem.

Evander Kane will get the biggest return hands down. But whoever takes him will be sorry they did! Thank god I know the Flames don't have the assests for him!

Calgary - Toronto D or FW, address needs and upcoming UFAs
I get you want to picks but to trade our backup who is playing fantastic is crazy!! Grabner will cost more than what we have and no way Vegas takes Brouwer off our hands. I would also rather keep Stone as he has been great and you need depth for a playoff push.

Tkachuck Brothers + Tavares
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JQuick32</b></div><div>If you want Brady Tkachuk you can't pick any lower than 3rd and maybe even as high as 2nd. ARI and BUF will take D most likely, but any other team in the top 3 may take Tkachuk. It's very possible Brady is the first forward off the board too as he is able to play C, something Zadina and Svechnikov do not play. Look no further than CBJ taking Dubois over wingers Tkachuk and Puljujarvi.
The cost would be very high. If you're signing Tavares, then Monahan becomes expendable and you can keep Backlund as a cheaper 2nd line C. Move Monahan to get the pick to take Tkachuk</div></div>
I get what you are saying but I would not want to lose Monahan at any expense. It would work to get the pick but what if the Flames fail to land Tavares? This team would be on another rebuild most likely. If we could not aquire the assets to get Brady without moving a major part then I would pass and just keep Monahan and Backlund. Either way there is no way we get either Brady or Tavares.... Sigh

You obviously did not read this right. I did not say Brodie would get a top 5 and 2 2nds.. I said top a 1st and 2 2nds. Then we trade all that plus Fox for a top 5 pick.

What would your team offer for Backlund as a rental?
Unless the Flames are going on a 10+ game losing streak he is not going anywhere!!! With that said if the wheels fell off I would want a 1st, top prospect and a 3rd or mid tier prospect.....

You lost me at the Pageau trade.... Gillis, Stone and Hathaway are worth way more than that stinking pile of crap. Next trade worse. Why would a team out of contention "gift us" a real defenceman for a pending UFA that will most likely retire... This does not make sense at all....

Minimal Changes
You really missed the mark on salaries for RFA's... Jankowski is going to see atleast double that with Kulak and Rittich getting much more than what you put. Backlund is very close as I see him making between 4.5-6m/year depending on contract length. If he wants more then he has to go. As much as I love Brouwer I would.... Wait what..... I don't love him at all!!! He and his massive salary have to go!!! I see a buyout coming this year for Brouwer as 3m/year savings could be spent on someone who could actually have an impact.

Flaming Jagr
Love the idea of bringing in a better 6th defenceman but I bet one will come from waivers for free. As for Jagr I feel he should play with Bennet and Versteeg on the 2/3 line and on the first PP unit with Gaudreau and Monahan. Lazar, Brouwer and Stajan seem useless and will have to prove themselves to be in this lineup in a couple of days...... Jankowski has shown much, much more skill and talent than all three combined in preseason and should centre the 4th line or at least be on the LW of the 2nd or 3rd line.

They won’t if Smith keeps up his below .900 save percentage.</div></div>
He had a .951 save percentage in his last outing. I think he will provide steady and consistent goaltending this season pending he does not get injured.

start of season
This team has one of the best defenceman and goalies in Doughty and Quick. On the offence Kopitar is one of the best 2 way forwards in the NHL and I feel he will bounce back. Brown on the first line I do not agree with... Gaborik is not injured at lease long term and will be on the top 2 lines but he really needs a bounce back season. The top 6 looks ok but the bottom 6 would worry me. Now with coaching change I think this team limps out of the gate but could get stronger as the season goes on. I say they will finish 4th-5th in the division.

Duchene is not going anywhere. Joe Sakik screwed himself on this one. He overvalued him by a country mile and has missed out on great trade opportunities. I loved him as a player but he is one of the worst GM's in the NHL. He will be gone before season's end. I bet the new GM will keep Deuchene and he will excell.

VAN C
Not too sure what in the F the Canucks are doing..... That top line completely failed last year and is a $20M line. Defence is horrid. Goaltending is ok but below average and will be tested behind that D. Then they sign Gagner, Nilsson, Del Zotto and Vanek???? I feel this is a team that will just barely miss the playoffs due to the band-aid's they signed and miss out on a top 5 pick... They should do a tear down and the Sedin's will not accept a trade so they are screwed.....
