<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GeauxPreds1</b></div><div>I know I wouldn’t want to add too much more to saros from this pred fans. Marner may be elite but he also comes with a big price tag. And getting rid of that contract helps Toronto fill more needs on the defense. If they could Marner into saros and say pesce then I think they have a better all around team. I’m hesitant on Marner because will he be able to produce without an elite center</div></div>

The thing is that Marner would be traded after he's paid his bonus on July 1st, so there is the chance that a lot of the FAs are gone if they can't get a deal finalized quickly. I do think they would work on a framework for a deal beforehand, but I imagine NSH would want to know Marner's expectation for salary as well. Teams can go up to 10% over the cap and the Leafs do have 18.5M cap to work with, so maybe they stall with their own FAs and sign a couple of big names to extend that time. So, with the assumption that the Leafs could take advantage of the cap space and it's Saros getting dealt, I think the cost on top would be minimal like Tomasino (former 1st) and a 2nd or 3rd, possibly other stuff added n the Leafs side.

Marner produced as a rookie with Bozak and JVR and he didn't have an elite center in his 2nd either, 3rd year he got Tavares, but you can see how Tavares benefited as well in the following year reaching a career high in goals. So, the question isn't whether he can produce without an elite C, it's how much will his production potentially drop and if he can produce with the guys NSH has. Almost everyone's totals in NSH over the years have been low for forwards, with the exception of Forsberg but his production is all over. When Duchene came his totals plummeted for example. However, I don't think Trotz is too concerned about that because of Marner's 2-way game. That being said he's probably still looking for a bargain.

If NSH is keeping Saros, then maybe a 3-way trade between the Flames, Leafs, and Preds could be worked out with the futures that Just_A_Guess suggested, personally I think Askarov would be on the table as well but I don't think the Flames or Leafs would want him anyways.

Flames: A ton of futures (mostly from NSH) + Liljegren/Fabbro
Preds: Marner + pick/prospect
Leafs: Markstrom + Andersson + a pick/prospect

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RobbStark003</b></div><div>Radulov: turned down more money in Montreal than he got in Dallas. Not to mention his final 3 years (5 year deal with Dallas) in the NHL, Bergevin would have been roasted for had Radulov actually signed 5 years in Montreal.

Markov: was 38 and wanted money and term. Ideally he signs a short term deal, but the player (with no agent) also has to be willing to negotiate.

Subban: Just came off winning the Norris, and the owner stepped in during arbitration and forced the deal. Subban was worth every penny in Montreal, and only regressed in Nashville due to back injuries. The main issue should be Subban for Weber was 1 for 1, not that Subban made too much.

Captain Pac: Agreed. That was Subban's team, another reason Subban earned that contract.

Gallagher: Agreed, Bergevin should have bought a dog. Paid his favourite minion for past accomplishments.

Anderson: The conditions of his deal, and Domi's deal with Columbus, were known before they made the trade. Habs got the better player, and he almost won a Cup in Montreal. The real mistake was not trading him last year when his regression was starting to show and his value was still high. Again, not Bergevin's fault.

Alzner: Agreed, he didnt see the direction the league was going.

Glass: He asked for the higher ranked prospect, and gladly took Suzuki, while adding Tatar and a 2nd. Thats good negotiating, not a mistake.

Danault: You can't force someone to sign with you. Danault turned down a similar deal for guaranteed top 6 duty.
Kotkaniemi: soured on the coach who sat him, and forced his way off the team after Danault left.
Dvorak: Clearly a panic move, team just went to the Cup and then lost their center depth. If you dont add, the fanbase would have erupted. And lets be real here, Dvorak played far better in Arizona before falling apart in Montreal.

Bergevin's main issue will be refusing to go All In with Price in his prime. Refusing to rebuild properly when Price started experience season long injuries. And never having a proper Development program for his prospects.</div></div>

C'mon, Markov had 2 more great years in the KHL and deserved to be signed and end his carreer in MTL, you might not know but he was so loved and respected here, also one of the reason for Radulov to quit. Again, Markov asked for 1 year and Bergevin fumbled him and patched him with freaking Alzner

Radulov, had 3 more GREAT years and was LOVED by fans and loved MTL. again, you don't want to sign him ? great then use him as asset management. Bergevin does not think ahead like that.

Anderson, What ever you think, you don'T resign a guy that proved nothing to this of a contract just because he is big and performed well 1 year... 5.5M is ALOT for someone who proved nothing. and look at him right now.

Danault wanted to take a cut to play in MTL, Bergevin did not want to pay him.... so he signed in LA for more... Bad asset managment, again.

HE did well on the Suzuki front, finally, but again, he did not want Suzuki first, imagine Glass in MTL not performing, MTL would not have 1 single good center... it's luck from Vegas

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>That was definitely a mistake. His biggest flaw was not realizing the teams direction earlier. Should have traded Gallagher, Tatar and Danault after that dominate season instead of resigning Gallagher and losing the other two. Taken steps to see what Weber and Price wanted with that change of direction and tanked earlier.

Even that can't be laid Soley at his feet though, gotta imagine ownership had some need to win and pushed him to make moves accordingly. Not a complete failure of a GM but definitely left the team better off than he found it, not as good as he could have left it though</div></div>

I would argue that they should have been traded during that season. That was not a dominate season. They won something like 9 of their first 10 games, then the rest of the season almost failed to win back to back games. I believe they even "Lost Out" the end of the season and still managed to make the playoffs in the extremely weak Northern Covid Division. They were a bad team that squeezed every last bit of Weber and Price to drag them to the finals. Tatar was benched and Gallagher was almost invisible in the playoffs.

In hindsight they miraculously went to the Cup. The year before, they were the 6 or 7th worst team in the league and Price stole the Play In series against Pittsburgh.

Bergevin's final 5 years, they made the playoffs twice when they shouldn't have (drafted Guhle instead of top 7, drafted Mailloux instead of top 15), missed the playoffs twice (drafted KK at 3and Sergachev at 9) and missed once when they actually had a good amount of points. Luckily Guhle and Mailloux were available where we were, because those two turned out for us.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jackaille</b></div><div>want me to help you:

- doesnt re-sign Radulov
- Doestn re-sign Markov
- Overly pay Subban
- Overly pay Gallagher
- Overly pay Anderson
- Sign ALZNER to 4.5M
- Ask for Cody Glass in the Pacc trade, get Suzuki by sheer luck and dumbness from Las Vegas
- Give Pacc the C
- Doesnt Re-sign Danault and sign Dvorak

I can go on lol</div></div>
