trade mr 69 keep the others
1. You don’t trade franchise centres.
2. You especially don’t trade them for cap dumps and project players.

I honestly know nothing about him and I'm a Stars season ticket holder so doesn't sound like they had any high hopes for him. At the end of the day I think Calgary was going to get a 2nd for Tanev and they might get a 3rd as well if the Stars get to the final which they have a chance to do so not a bad deal for Calgary</div></div>
Not terrible but it’ll take years to find out
I guess Conroy is super high on Grushnikov as a Swift Skating, Defensive Defender who plays like a Bulldog in his own end. Many see him as a potential Tanev 2.0 and he fits in with the Offensive Prospects we already have
Rumors are Conroy turned down a 1st, because it was tailed us taking a bad contract back, like Cody Ceci’s, Ryan Reaves or Ryan Johansson being mentioned
Conroy was most interested in a Prospect, because the Draft Pedigree is supposed to drop off dramatically after 20th Overall and it’d take years to develop that player, whereas Grushnikov was a need and already in the process. I think he was rated as DAL’s 10th or 11th Prospect and CapFriendly has him rated as a projected 80P3. He’s just not gonna put up any points

Flames aren't even getting offers for tanev with a first round pick, let alone a first rounder and top prospect

Idk about having 6.65M sitting in the press box. Tanev is overpaid imo. Don't think Trev will re-sign Brodie. All in good fun everyone see's things differently.

ok so maybe you could say he was worth a 1st last year. Teams don't pay for a rental on last year's results if that player then produces f all the year after, regardless of how bad their team is

If Dorion does this, it would add to the long list of upsetting moves he made. This is a very poor return.
Not expecting outsiders to know much about Brannstrom though. Brannstrom has dominated his role last season, his 23 y/o season. He has also paced for 24 pts per 82 games since 2020-21 (he was 21 y/o), almost all at ES and from the 3rd pairing. He has this kind of advanced metrics because of a very good hockey IQ, great passing and excellent quickness. That makes him so much better at defending than a guy like Hamonic for example, despite "size and toughness" (Hamonic who by the way didn't get destroyed last season since he played with Sanderson)
<img class="for_img" src="https://forums.hfboards.com/attachments/1687090656435-png.718991/" alt="1687090656435-png.718991">
Not only that, moving Brannstrom is not SMART since he is a much much better than anything after him (Hamonic, Guenette, JBD, Thomson, Matinpalo, Larsson...). One injury in the Top-4 and Sens are screwed if Brannstrom is gone.
The NO BRAINER move is to simply trade Kubalik
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Snowhawk18</b></div><div>I agree, I would expect more for that 5th round pick, especially since the Hawks will be solving Ottawa’s cap problem for them.</div></div>
lol
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BankersBox</b></div><div>I agree he's an upgrade over our 5/6th guys today* and a 5th isn't much to acquire him. This trade would help Ottawa more than Chicago, *Brannstrom could lose his spot next year to one of our own prospects.</div></div>
No, you put Brannstrom in a position to succeed and without the pressure of making the playoffs he would thrive even more. You'd be selling him for much more than a 5th at the draft
If Dorion is dumb enough to do that, just abuse him (like many have done before)

Starting the semi-rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>siamro</b></div><div>Buffalo is a better team without Olafsson. To get a 3rd with retention for one year seems like good value. What I don't understand is why Calgary would want him. He's a defensive liability and not a player you'd want to build your club with. He can score but the other team will score more when he's on the ice.</div></div>
Agree with the sentiment, no way does a top 6 forward on a respectable offense put up almost 50 pts and finish -26 have oodles of value as its purely a one dimensional guy, for CGY they only do this to bring some offense to the 3rd line or insurance for the rookie Coronato but also to maybe move him at TDL for a better pick than they've given up. For BUF its all about moving him out, for a probable high in the round 3rd. (I know 1RW Quinn is injured might throw a monkey wrench into this.) His value might get better, but it might get worse if hes not in top 6.
The returns are a bit meh if you're CGY for some of these, but its about bringing in the youth, adding some picks, getting some young guys with upside (bemstrom/frederic/drury/boqvist) and getting the right type of vets for the next 2-3 yrs that won;t block the Zarys, Poirers....

Well sometimes, given the right linemates that can help with his D struggles he can be dynamic. I mean he has put up good numbers. He had 42pts in 54gms with Eichel and Rhino and them 49pts the next season playing 3/4 of the year with a bad wrist. He finds that fit and he probably could be a 50-60pt guy.
