why point is better than matthews
It's almost as if they are two different players, playing in two different systems for two different teams with completely different teammates.
Both players have roles and playstyles that fit their teams needs.

Well if you could have either player to build a team around you can’t really go wrong. I wouldn’t say either is better but both deserve to be considered in the same class.

Point has guys like Hedman, Sergachev, Cernak and McDonagh backing him up and also had Kucherov to hand him the puck when in the best spot possible to score or when Kuch opened up his lane, you could say that if Matthews was on the bolts team, you could very well say that Matthews would have been just as good, not defending Matthews, you just have to look at who the guy has on his team, the leafs can honestly count strictly on the big four on their team, Tavares, Matthews, Marner and Nylander, and they've only got one veteran puck moving defenceman, Morgan Reilly, even big Bo was playing like a puck mover in the playoffs, he played better in the playoffs than he ever did in peg or Buffalo, Point is a great player, I get you there, but Tampa has all these other players that clearly to cap cuts to build the team around them, and they also have Vasilevskiy, one player doesn't win the cup bro, a whole team does, even when Gretzky won those cups with the oilers, he did not do it alone, when the Iles won those cups, Bossy didn't do it alone, when the habs won all those cups, Lafleur didn't do it alone, not saying if the leafs ever win the cup that Matthews will do it alone, but they need better defenceman for them to win it, all the guys you compared to Point winning this year, don't have the big four defenceman he has to win the cup, yes they do have phenomenal playmakers on the team but you also need good defenceman and more than one to do so

At the same price point...i take Matthews 10 times out of 10. At their given cap hits, I'd take Point 8 times out of 10

Well if your going off points (which it sounds like you are) Offence isn’t everything. Offensively I’d prob give a slight edge to matthews. Defensively I’d prob give a slight edge to point. Overall I’d say they are pretty close and I wouldn’t argue with you if you had good arguments about who is better.

After those playoffs it's not necessarily bad opinion, but I do disagree with it. And I'm a Bolts fan myself.

Fair but I'd say point was a big reason that happened.

They're also pretty stacked at center and goalie. I suppose Panik or Hagelin plus Arizona's 3rd could work for WSH. Probably still have to throw in a prospect. Say.... Brett Leason.

I think the NYR should make this trade. The pieces you're getting back are solid pieces, but none of them are elite. In fact most of the are "extra" pieces to the Rangers. AD's nice, but Fox and Trouba are on the Right. Strome's career high is because he was paired with Panarin. The 1st is a requirement and Gauth is a good piece, but I don't think elite. So year, NYR should do this. Malkin and Panarin....yikes.

You know you could have just included the '22 2nd in place of Donato in the original deal and it would have had the same outcome?

I can't see NJ helping NY with their cap in anyway unless it was a seriously lopsided trade in NJs favor ... not the other way around. Trouba's contract is LT problematic

Trouba is very overpaid but only barley better than severson but to then add on zacha a top 6 foward and a 5th is way too much

They'd want a player with almost no NHL experience instead of a top 4 dman? I mean thats fine with me but doesn't make sense
edit: They'd have to take a contract back if Sanheim isn't part of the deal with the cap already being too tight with Sanheim apart of the deal

ARI Blockbuster
I do think getting Matthews to AZ would charge up their tiny fanbase and maybe attract some more fans but TO won't trade Matthews. I mean, it's a good deal for AZ but I can't see TML making that trade. And I can't see Petro signing in TO for $8.5. Maybe $9.5-10 but at $8.5 he'd stay in STL.
