Hockey trades - TOR FLA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MacerV</b></div><div>The leafs can already afford to sign Marner to anything other than like a max deal.</div></div>
My understanding is they have 13.5M in cap space currently - 6.6M will be taken up by Johnsson and Kapanen, leaves 7M left for Marner

Tkachuk wont be getting a 9M contract, so theres that. Frolik can be traded to Florida (reunite with Coach Q) and there you'll get another 4M in cap relief. No need to trade Ryan he was pretty integral to the team's depth.
Hamonic wants to stay in western Canada, will likely be Brodie out.

Johnny Hockey brings a cup to Philly
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GirouxCrew</b></div><div>It can’t be looked at like a 1 for 1 with “a couple picks thrown in”. The whole point of JVR is just to make the money and current rosters work. That’s it. The real value is the top prospect and the high draft picks.
And you make it sound like JVR is making millions more for several more years. It’s 250k and 1 more year. And there’s also no guarantee that Gaudreau is going to resign in a couple years. I suppose you could just wait until it gets closer but still...</div></div>
Sorry I didnt mean to make it sound 1 for 1. However, I do think JVR's contract is miles worse than Gaudreau's. Compare a contract that involves taking a decent top 20 LW to their age 34 season to a contract that is slightly cheaper, and controls a 25 year old legit superstar to their age 28 season. So no, the money and term are not equivalent at all.
Also yeah the picks and prospects are great, but uncertain. They have value but to trade Johnny this season, a team is going to need legit NHLers back. A first next year wont be NHL ready until like 2021 at the earliest.

Johnny Hockey brings a cup to Philly
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GirouxCrew</b></div><div>The money is almost even and it’s only one more year than JG. That pretty much needs to happen to make sense for both teams. Financially it works and doesn’t create holes on the rosters as it’s a LW for a LW. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to have to add another prospect other than frost. Just not Farabee or Ratcliffe.
They’d already be getting a LW capable of scoring 30+, a top tier fwd prospect and two first rounders one guaranteed to be high. I personally don’t think the value is too far off</div></div>
Thing is JVR is 30, Johnny is 25. JVR might even decline in 2 or 3 seasons, Johnny is entering his prime. Fact is JVR has a more expensive contract, for a longer term, at an older age, while being significantly less valuable to a team. The prospects and picks are nice but not deal makers. Maybe in like 3 years there'll be a trade, but literally makes no sense for Calgary unless they absolutely steal the trade

Johnny Hockey brings a cup to Philly
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GirouxCrew</b></div><div>What do you think it would take? Realistically</div></div>
It's not going to happen, but something like 2 1sts, Ratcliffe and Konecny + a B prospect. Gaudreau is a top 3 LW in the league...
JVR lowers the value from Flyers in a package (way older than Johnny, more term on a more expensive contract)

Tkachuk is worth 10% of the cap at absolute most. Thats 8.3M roughly

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChuckyCheese</b></div><div>First off, no way Tampa Bay takes this deal without us being the one sending a 1st rounder. Second, why in god's name is Prout being brought back, guys an absolute pylon. Finally, big mistake giving up this early on Jankowski, he's a cost controlled great role player.
Like Talbot signing, and agree we need a top6 forward.</div></div>
While I agree Tampa shouldnt be adding a first, but taking on Callahan dump from TB is a pretty significant part of the deal, I'd expect a 2nd from Tampa for sure. Maybe a conditional pick if Brodie re-signs with them

Its gotta be Hall + an A prospect + at least a conditional 1st for Gaudreau. Hall is on an expiring contract and is going to probably sign a contract that's significantly more expensive than Johnny's contract.

Calgary Fans Comment Pls
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Old_Snowman</b></div><div>Thanks for feedback, If Neal can't regain his scoring touch, the 5.75m looks really bad. Worse than Abby's 4.25 even if Neal scored a handful more than Abby. They're both 2005 draft 2nd rounders, same age basically and both fading away at the same time. Maybe this trade is one year premature. I think if Neal had one more unproductive year scoring less than 10 goals and 20 points, then Calgary might convinced
the Neal of old is gone and be more desperate to dump his cap hit.</div></div>
Yeah fair points, but any move to dump Neal's contract one year after signing him is just a knee jerk reaction. Way too early to be paying with other assets just to get rid of Neal.

Yeah Calgary probably says no. Less than 2M in cap savings is not worth giving up a 1st rounder. Neal much more likely to bounce back than Abdelkader is

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Nice ideas, but not sure on the NSH one. They need cap space and lose it with this deal, Weber is one of the few dmen they have making little money.
And without moving Subban or Ellis, I cant see them getting UFA to be Brodie, although Jankowski would be a good fit there.
I can see Bennett and Tkachuk getting a lot more than what you have them going for. Bennett will be offer sheeted in a second for 2.4mil, IMO.
At least one of Frolik, Stone, Brodie, Hamonic, Backlund, Bennett, Ryan, Neal need to go, with little $$$ in salary coming back. And probably two of those guys.
IMO, you call Philly and offer Brodie and Bennett for Hagg or Morin AND Lindblom or Strome or Radcliffe AND a 2nd, that saves at least 5mil. Then you deal Frolik for a cheaper replacement. Cap issues solved.</div></div>
Frolik and Brodie will be traded for sure, and Stone likely to get bought out. That resolves all "cap issues" I think. The Flames need to make improvements in the roster, and Im not sure that Philly trade would make the actual roster better, unless Ratcliffe can play top 6 minutes right away
