    Return would ideally be:

Young controllable roster forward (ie. Connor Brown, Miles Wood, Puljujarvi,)

    or

    2nd round picks, I don't think he gets a 1st from anyone but maybe a 2nd+

Montreal would be a pretty good landing spot. They really need a partner for Weber

If you are looking for a cost controlled guy it would be Lehkonen + 3nd pick for Brodie... or Hudon + 2nd.

I don't think Hudon is even an option at this point but the Lehkonen idea makes some sense.

I like the Lehkonen deal, I think he would fit our upcoming core really he would be perfect if he was a right shot

If Boston I would want 62 and 96, Calgary could chip in a late pick for it.

His cap hit is little high but Leafs could use him.
Need retention with a 3rd team involved

I think that's a good trade for NJ: Brodie for Wood, 62, and 96.

Maybe Calgary adds in a future late pick to help with the expansion draft, like a 21 or 22 5th or 6th.

If the Flames are moving him, I think they would be wise to go after a top 6 forward (ideally right handed) that can play now instead of second round pick + as that pick likely doesn't make the big club until the last year of the Gio + Johnny contracts at the earliest. This team just finished first in the West (though they face planted in the playoffs), so I don't think they would be looking for a player that will grow up with the roster.

If they are going after a younger player who is ready now, maybe they can use him to shake Kapanen loose from Toronto. Another option is a trade to play RD in Tampa as an under the radar choice centering the return around Miller or Johnson (though those contracts are a bit pricey), or perhaps to Florida for Hoffman if they end up getting Panarin.

There are two reasons why the Flames would trade Brodie - the first is Andersson and Valimaki have progressed to the point we can make the move and second is we need to make some Cap room for Tkachuk. That is why the poster said cost controlled forward or picks. Trading straight across for a Kap or Hoff would be preferable but will not gain any Cap space.

I am well aware that Andersson & Valimaki are the reason why the Flames are able to move Brodie. I am saying I would prefer a player that is ready for top 6 duty immediately as this team has a good shot next year at the Cup. If you don't get that return I would just keep him as each time he's been with Gio for a whole season, Gio has been in talks for the Norris. OP wondered what teams might look at Brodie, and I suggested a few contending teams that are thinner on RD and could have a glut of top 6 forwards that I would like to see on the Flames. I think the Flames can make other moves to clear some cap (Stone, Frolik) and worst case they have 14.4M available which I think barely fits all the guys that absolutely need to be back (Tkachuk = 7.75, Bennett = 2.75, Mangiapane = 1, Rittich = 2.75).

If Stone was easy to move he would have been moved last year, Calgary shouldn't pay to get rid of him if they don't have to. Also Calgary should have a really good shot at a deep playoff run next year maybe not the cup, our entire core other than Backlund and Gio are 25 and under and consist of a lot of good players. They should be making moves to build on that group, guys that are 19 - 25 or draft picks that can play in the next 2-3 years when Gio and Johnny's contracts expire. The Flames window is just cracking open, they have so many years ahead of competing with this group, there is no need to age it to try make it better, the year we should pencil in as an absolute cup push is our last year of Giordano because they owe that too him.

They can't trade Stone last year because of a blood clot. He's still a decent player who I agree they won't and shouldn't need to pay to go away. I don't dislike the idea of getting a piece that grows with this group as you've suggested, I just prefer being a little more aggressive and getting a proven top 6 player for at worst a #3 defender in a year following finishing second in the league.

Following more the intent of the thread, I would propose Montreal would look at Brodie and move Drouin (who they were unhappy with towards the end of last season). This is a 24 year old player with two >50 point seasons and would give the Flames another option besides Gaudreau to carry the puck in the offensive zone. The Flames would have to add but perhaps a package of Brodie + First for Drouin + Late Second / Early Third would get the Habs to bite.

I don't think Jersey would move Wood plus picks for a defender 1 year from UFA as they are rebuilding. The two teams I've shopped Brodie to are closer to getting into the playoffs (in Montreal's case) and competing for a cup (in Tampa's case).
