post cup year
I keep seeing people post teams with similar salary figures to yours. No way that UFAs like Joshua, Zadorov, Toffoli, etc sign for these kinds of AAVs. Zadorov will get closer to $5M or more. Toffoli's goal scoring history is worth closer to $7M. Joshua for sure over $4M. It would be nice to think that some of these guys will sign for hometown discounts, but even then, they're not going to sell themselves short to the degree that people hope they will.

The level of prospect has to matter. Lekkerimaki is on a way higher level.
My point more than anything is that if the Pens insist on a 1st and Lekkerimaki, I can't see the Canucks signing up for it.

He'd be a rental for the Canucks. If they're giving up a prime prospect, they for sure aren't giving up a pick as well. Great for the Pens if they get more elsewhere, but there's no way the Canucks are including even a 2nd, let alone a first plus Lekkerimäki.

continue to stack
I can't see the Canucks giving up that amount of defensive depth. Like, maybe they have to give up Myers to get Tanev or someone like Sean Walker (who I think should be ahead of Tanev on the priority list), but they aren't also letting Juuleson and Zadorov go as well.

Canucks go all in
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>djmbrown</b></div><div>Right but when there’s 10 teams interested then the price goes up. Do you think the price Vancouver paid was the price that Lindholm was “said to get”? Nope Vancouver wanted him so they paid the price to get him.</div></div>
You're absolutely correct; however, the Canucks don't want or need Tanev that bad. They're especially not going to be interested in moving out size at the deadline. As mystifying as Myers is to almost everyone, he's a giant who the coaching staff love. He's also a $6M expiring contract that can probably be signed for less next season. That's an attractive piece for some teams, like the Canucks.

Agree 100%. Unless a top 6 forward gets seriously injured before the deadline, I doubt Guentzel will be a realistic target for the Canucks. The Canucks would have to include Willander or Lekkerimak and the Pens would also need to take a less than optimal roster player back. Plus, one of Guentzel or Lindholm almost certainly can't be resigned in that scenario. Just doesn't seem like a win for either team.

Next Season
I'll be surprised if Joshua comes for that kind of money. I'm guessing he'll want something closer to Greenway kind of AAV. Petey is probably a couple Mil a year more than that too.

Rutherford Goes All Pens
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Vancity2196</b></div><div>Penguins are not trading Guentzel & Crosby. </div></div>
Why not? If the Pens aren't going to make the playoffs this season, they sure aren't guaranteed to do so in the near future. Do you really think that if the Pens get to the decision point of moving Guentzel, they wouldn't move anyone else? Especially if they can restock with someone like Petey? Canucks are giving away a huge asset in Pettersson. Seems reasonable that the Pens would be willing to move on from Crosby. Feels like you're mixing sentimentality with business. As a lifelong Liverpool supporter, I can guarantee that the Fenway Group don't have that problem.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Vancity2196</b></div><div>ANA decline - Vatrano is not getting traded.</div></div>
Seems that common intel out there is that Vetrano is on the market for the right price. I guess not the price I offered, but there is a strong likelihood he gets moved. If adding futures, is required, I'm sure the Canucks would be willing to do so. He's a guy who's been on the Canuck's radar for a while. Point being, it's likely that Vatrano is getting traded.

There's no guaranteed lifetime of Pettersson for any team, he's an RFA with the potential to walk as a UFA in 2025.
As far as the Vatrano deal goes (seems like the description doesn't show with the rosters any more), I had noted in there, happy to tweak/add where appropriate. I'm not the most tuned in to some of the tradeoffs in value, but I do feel like there should be some pushback on your slamming of my trade. Zadorov is a lot more than a 3rd pair D. D has more value than forwards. Size isn't coachable. Canucks can throw in a player from Abbotsford if required.

I agree 100%. It makes 0 sense to me that you'd extend Brock for 6M, but not be willing to go to 8.5 for a much better player in Miller. I get it that there was probably very little return you could get for Brock as an RFA, but, by signing him, you have to pay the opportunity cost by losing Miller.
People should keep in mind that the cap will eventually go up as well. 8.5M on Miller will be a good value over at least the first 5 years of the deal.

Some different ideas
What's the fascination with Byram? Last thing the Canucks need is to trade away their top scorer, with 1 year of term left and take back a player that may be one (or even less) hits away from retirement. The last thing the Canucks should be doing is trading certainty for risk, unless there's a ton of other potential upside to balance that risk.
Plus, you trade Miller to a western conference team and you only make it tougher next year, unless you're doing something that weakens the Avs more than it weakens the Canucks.
Whether Colorado would ever accept a deal like this isn't important, there's no way the Canucks should be going down a path like this one.

Cheap. You have 0 leverage trading for an avs dman so not even close</div></div>
So who are your 3 protected players then? If you protect Toews, sounds like it's Toews, Makar, and Girard no? Seattle's not taking Johnson. That's why I'm saying Graves or Toews would be unprotected. (Note that you turned my suggestion of Graves in to Girard in your post - I never said Girard).

Possibly. I'm more interested in the salary numbers and how much buying out the Canucks would have to do to transform their roster in to something significantly different than what it is today. I'll leave the trade equity to folks who are better at it than me.
What do you think Blueger is worth?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>Did you try to trade for Patrick nemeth or something bc that is one of the worse trades for an avs dman that has been on this site all year</div></div>
You're gonna lose one of Toews or Graves to the Kraken. Doesn't matter to me who the Avs want to keep, Canucks are happy to trade for either of them. Here you get a promising prospect and a draft pick. Nate Schmidt was worth a 3rd. Feels like you're getting fair value for one of Graves or Toews.
