<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Lets clarify something. Hellebuyck and Demko are going to be #1 and #2 in Vezina voting. After that it will be something like Oettinger or Shesterkin simply due to to the teams success. But Markstrom has had for the most part an excellent season and will absolutely get Vezina votes. Not a finalist but probably 5th to 7th in voting.

Money Puck and Evolving Hockey use 2 different methods for xG. Evolving Hockey uses Fenwick (includes missed shots) as it's base and Money Puck only uses Shots on Goal. Until about the last month of the season Markstrom was ~4th on MP and 2nd on EH. The TDL rumours along with the complete downgrade of defensive play in front of him tanked his numbers quite a lot</div></div>

Fair enough, let's wait and see. but my real point was Markstrom is a 34 year old goalie who hasn't waived his NMC (also why would he to one of the highest tax rates in a a tough division) add to this that the Kings have for under $2M done fairly well with budget goaltending.

If LA did pay big pieces for an upgrade at goal to me it looks like Saros (or Ullmark if he changes his mind) are the only ones who makes sense as legitimate goaltending upgrades. But if it costs LA Roy reupping or a solid LD3, is getting an upgrade at goal really make the Kings a contender? Gibson and Markstrom are exceptional goalies, but the realistic asking price for these guys along with there age make them less than stellar trade targets for most teams with goalie issues.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Schuyler</b></div><div>Yeah I mean I don't think anyone is saying anything bad about Crosby he's for sure #2 here but McDavid is one of the best playoff performers of all time literally Gretzky and Lemieux stats in the modern era its insane not his fault he's had so many horrible GMs and teams. He has nearly x2 the regular season awards at 27 lead the league in playoff points in 2022 without playing in the final and last year had 20 points in the first 2 rounds Eichel lead the playoffs with 26 just insane to say McDavid needs to do more</div></div>

I think "best" is a subjective term here, best should be who positions you to win the most games. McDavid is not a one man machine, and from hockey pundits to vegas, no one thinks of Edmonton as an empty threat team.

If you think McDavid could retire today and still be considered the best player drafted over the last 25 years, I'd agree on skill, not just yet on compete level.

I believe compete level is proven by playoff performance, I don't think it's crazy to say if McDavid doesn't get a cup appearance for his career he is not considered the best player drafted over the last 25 years.

I also think it's myopic to say the only reason the Oilers haven't won a cup is because of management. The Oilers have one of the strongest top-6 in the entire league, they have solid defense, and really just weak at goaltending, but several recent cup winners have overcome those odds. Vegas, hockey pundits, and most fans wouldn't be surprised to see the OIlers make the cup final, so I don't think we can just say "bad GM. on any other team McDavid would win a cup"
