GET A F****IN clue Jesus its a wonder why Pens fans are thought of in such low regard reading the BS on here.</div></div>
Well someone's got her panties in a bunch.
Neither signing Duclair nor not signing Cullen are no brainers. Cullen will be 42 in November and had decidedly look like he lost a step in Minnesota. Maybe it was just their system, maybe not. As for Duclair, Pittsburgh has remade careers and Duclair, at worst, is a super fast, very skilled low-risk, very high reward project.
As for Grabner, agree to disagree. It's no fluke why he scores so many empty netters (which, by the way, firstly, if they were easy to score, Crosby would hit double digits every year, secondly, when you score an EN Goal, you essentially just ended the game). He's a closer, fast as hell and great defensively - his coach trusts him to be on the ice when the game is on the line. He'd fit the Pens system perfectly. Seeing him & Hagelin PK for a season would be so fun to watch... What could have been... Instead we've got ******* Jack Johnson.

I hade to do a trade to switch the players so I mentioned it was a signing otherwise people would ask what Pittsburgh traded for Grabner, Folin.

He wouldn't have to be. But it'd be fun to run a line of Guentzel-Crosby-Malkin for a year. My god, that would be fun.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>
There is no space in pittsburgh to sign JT unless you move one of him or Crosby.

I've just shown that there is.

Fine, pick any team. I just used random teams as vehicles to get rid of those players.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>
Not to mention Sprong on the 4th line is a huge mistake. He's not a 4th line guy,. He isn't a player who likes to check.
</div></div>
Again, you can put the lines however you like but that's on old school way of thinking anyway. Every line should be able to score. You don't need "checkers" you need guys who can carry the play and dominate possession.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>
Also that blue line...omg not Chad R. again. That will NEVER work. He's an AHL level defensman. They need to bring in a free agent.</div></div>
The 2018 Penguins Blue line is as good if not better than the 2016 or 2017 versions that won cups. And if you've basically got one of Crosby, Malkin or Tavares on the ice at all times, your D are going to have very little work to do.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>I mean yeah its easy. But youre not resigning either Guentzel or ZAR. If you do, you won't be icing a competitive bottom-6. That Brassard and Sheahan money will evaporate quickly.</div></div>
To re-sign Guentzel you'd likely need to make a sacrifice. It might even be a guy like Maatta. Or maybe next year would be the year the Pens trade Kessel. Brassard, I think, only has 1 more year with the Pens regardless. Sheahan is kind of a luxury. If those two players move out you probably stretch your Centre depth out to Crosby-Malkin-Tavares. I'd say any "Bottom 6" that starts with Tavares will likely be very competitive. It'd likely be more like a "Top 9" situation where you're spreading out your even-strength ice-time evenly between 3 lines.

The Pens definitely wouldn't re-sign Brassard. They'd probably need to make sacrifices in order to retain Guentzel. Maybe even eventually trade Kessel (which is something I think the Pens should revisit every year but this year it should be a resounding 'No'). But in my opinion, if a team has an opportunity to put the star power in place, do it and then build/adjust around that because Superstars like Tavares have shown to out-produce their cap hits more than other players (with exception to those on ELCs).

I don't think it'd be an extra mill but I could see him wanting a 3-year deal. Supposedly he wants the same deal as Marleau.

Nitpicking here but Sheahan's qualifying offer would be $2.075M. I think JvR would probably cost the same as Horny ($5.3M) and I'd rather ship out Hunwick and see if I can hang onto one of Sheary or Hags but overall, pretty good roster!

Two things: You need a couple extra forwards and another D. Healthy scratches count against the cap. Secondly, pretty sure Kovalchuk is going to be at least $6M.

That's not a bad idea to see if the Pens can snag AA and Sheahan from DET in exchange for some cost controlled roster players. I think though that the cost may be Rust instead of Kuhnackl though. Rust is pretty comparable to AA but has a cheap contract for one more season.

Ideal Pens Offseason
Big fan of Dom Moore, like the idea of skilled vet at 4C. I think Tristan Jarry is ready to backup full-time so I don't think Chad Johnson is needed. I don't think Sheary will make that much. He had a great year but clearly the product of Crosby.

"4 Lines that can score"
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cg2023</b></div><div><i>Kapanen would be held in the AHL before given fourth line minutes. His game could develop faster with 20 minutes per night down there than up at the NHL level. Kunitz is still a better top six option than Comeau. Chicago would not retain anything in a Bickell deal, they can't afford to.</i></div></div> I think Kapanen has a 50/50 shot of making the team this year simply because, as GMJR has stated, he wants "4 Lines that can score". And just because I've placed him on the 4th line on this roster, what I've tried to do is have 8 wingers, any of whom could jump into the Top 6 at any given time. So maybe (likely) Kunitz returns to form and is back with Crosby and Perron drops down to play with Malkin. Or maybe Bickell needs fewer minutes so Comeau plays there. Or the sure-to-be-signed Sergei Plotnikov. Then on the right side, I'd like to think Hornqvist & Crosby are a safe bet but Dupuis, who's has hard a worker as anyone, could jump into the Top 6 if he can stay healthy. In any case, if the Penguins could put this roster together and if they can stay healthy (which is a big "if") they'd have a steady stream of, not superstar wingers, but guys who can fill in admirably, and those who aren't there would make for a stacked Bottom 6.

"4 Lines that can score"
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>detjustin</b></div><div><i>You're dreaming with Oshie for Sutter and Bennett.</i></div></div> There are certainly better deals that St. Louis can get (Okposo) and, if I were them, I wouldn't even be looking to trade Oshie in the first place. But should those deals dry up with other players moving and Oshie staying put the Blues so desperately want to "shake things up" and Oshie is their only core player with no type of trade protection, I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen. For whatever reason there's been a lot of GMs expressing interest in Sutter and, for reasons I'd say are short-sighted, St. Louis wants to move key pieces of their core and Oshie is the easiest to move.

2015-16 Blackhawks Final Prediction
As eroded as this roster looks compared to what Chicago has now it's still too optimistic IMO. I think Richards signing for so low was a one-year "I need to prove myself" contract. He'll easily get twice what you've got. Saad might sign for that little but I wouldn't be surprised if it's at least $500K more and if he really wanted to be a dick his agent could probably find a team to offer sheet him $6.5M but it sounds like he knows he's in a good situation and won't do that. And while Panarin's cap hit is only $812,500 if he reaches his bonuses it'll be closer to $3M.
I'm mostly nitpicking. It's possible that Saad & Richards could come to a combined $7M but I think it'll be more like $10M. I think Chicago will land Mike Reilly. It just makes too much sense for him to go there.

Hawks Roster Possibilities Part1
It'd be smart if they could move Crawford but his contract is crazy. He's pretty much Chris Osgood but it only takes one dumb GM I always say. Brandon Saad, I'm guessing, is looking at more like $6M-$6.5M. But you've left cap room for that and Panarin's Bonuses.
