bs trade
This is about the value that Kreider will likely fetch, but I don't think it's the correct combination of assets. It's also not something that Boston should offer. Carlo has become a pretty pivotal guy on the right side for them. Also, NYR has a BIG log jam of defensemen on the right side (Trouba, DeAngelo, and Fox). I think the correct combo is a tier 2 forward prospect (this ends up being most contending team's best forward prospect because all the T1's are probably with the NHL team), a 1st, and a conditional pick (where the conditions won't be met because they never are for NYR).

Maybe
I don't see this happening for a few reasons. First, NYR has a pretty big log jam at the RD position (Trouba, Fox, DeAngelo, and multiple prospects close to ready) so it doesn't make sense to add Barrie. Second, Barrie is going into UFA and NYR can't really handle signing him right now. Third, Staal would still have to waive his NMC, which is never a given. Fourth, I don't think the NYR front office is looking for this type of return for Krieder. The assets are there with the pick, prospect and Kerfoot, but I don't think it's the combo that gets the deal done.

I hadn't considered moving Strome instead of Vlady, but this works once you cull the roster down to 20 players. There are still a lot of questions down the middle, but perhaps the young guys can step up.

I agree with you. However, CAL did just trade Neal for Lucic pretty much straight up, so stupid is a stupid does. Not saying they would make another mistake, but they messed up worse IRL recently.

Yeah, agreed. I mean all this is on paper analysis and the season will show us otherwise, but today, if I were to put money on any team in the Metro making it, it would be on WSH. And this is an NYR fan saying that.

Yeah, unfortunately the Atlantic is really top heavy and those highly skilled teams tend push the rest of the division off a cliff. That's not the Metro. Even PIT lost a lot of paper points by replacing Kessel with Tanev so if they get into injury trouble, they can easily fall into a nasty fight for the playoffs. Out of NYI, CAR, PHI, NYR, CBJ, and NJD it's likely that at least 3 of those will be trying to claw their way into not just a WC spot, but a divisional spot!

Potentially, but there are a ton of question marks here.
First, they literally can't field this roster because it's over $6.5 million over the cap.
Second, there is so much youth and so many new players here. It's unlikely that they all work out right away, but again not impossible.
However, the Metropolitan division is very wide open after PIT and WSH who would likely need to meltdown to not make the playoffs so they have a shot.

Trade with NY Rangers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Old_Snowman</b></div><div>Everyone's freaking out because Miller is a top notch D prospect....but the Rangers are swimming in those. They have Miller, Lundkvist and Fox. They also have Trouba and Skjei. That's 5 x top four defensemen. Not including Shattenkirk. Where do they all fit?
Detroit has lots of good D prospects but Miller or Lundkvist would be a great add to Seider, McIssac, Hronek, and Cholowski. I'd be happy with either.
Namestnikov, Smith, and (Miller or Lundkvist) for a 2nd round pick. NY's cap problems disappear to sign Trouba and Buch and Detroit gets a young prospect. They let Namestnikov walk as a UFA and can eat Smith's salary next year when Ericsson and Daley are off the books. I'm sure Detroit fans would flip at the though of Smith returning but it'd be worth it if Miller of Lundkvist comes in. All hinging on Smith waiving that NTC to Detroit.</div></div>
I agree with you on this. Pretty solid analysis, especially at the end. I do think DET fans would be very unhappy about bringing Smith back so I don't think that would fly, but if you make it for a 3rd instead of a 2nd, I think they would see the value over time.

Trade with NY Rangers
Miller (a 1st rounder) is arguably NYR's top D prospect and DET has a need there. NYR is also in need of cap space. So this move does fit. Problem here I think is value. Vlad is not a negative asset due to being on a 1 year deal and still providing solid forward depth. He could likely get a 3rd/4th by himself. The Beleskey contract is not that unattractive (when buried) as to need to add Miller to the deal. If you swap Beleskey for Brendan Smith, then yes I think you give up Miller and Vlad and that 2nd return could drop to a 3rd.
Reasonable though. Thanks!

Predicting Penguin Point Totals
The point totals for McCann appear optimistically high considering his highest combined season totals are at 35P (19G, 16A). A 19P increase, while doable, is a solid reach here, especially if Blueger gets some time on that wing. Similarly, Bjustad has only scored over 20G once in his career. I think his point totals are very close, but the goals are too high. On the same vein, Kahun might score more goals because of this, but get fewer assists. I think Rust's season is pretty solidly predicted here, barring injury. Another prediction is a career year for Galchenyuk. I think that's a tough ask in his first year with the team, but I do expect an improvement from his 41P total last year. Should Hornqvist stay healthy, I think you're pretty close though. Your 3rd D pairing predictions look a bit low, but not unreasonable.
Unfortunately, Johnson's contract is negative value for most teams at the moment. It will cost PIT more to move it than you have offered. You're looking at multiple picks/prospects or a solid roster player and a solid pick to do so. 4 years of $3.25 million in space for a negative asset is a tough ask for any team that isn't on the complete rebuild.
This was a fun one though. Good analysis on the players. Thanks!

So the Rangers need some cap relief
While NYR needs cap space, I don't think the value for Vlad is negative since he is still a good depth forward (injuries and inconsistencies happen on every roster) and only has a 4m/1yr deal. With this type of trade, OTT would likely need to take Matt Belesky's contract or Brendan Smith's (which both are negative value) if they really want that 2nd rounder.
While OTT would be a good fit for Vlad, teams like CBJ, MIN, ANA, LAK, and SJS may as well. All depending on the circumstances of course. NYR has a lot of assets that could sweeten any move (or use buyouts as a cap mechanic) so it would seem premature to give up a 2nd rounder as a cap dump.

Oh absolutely, I get that. However even a chance at getting Jack Hughes is better than landing Manson, in my opinion. Better to change the 'and then some' part than give away that STL pick (right now of course).

I like Manson to Buffalo for a 1st and then some, but just not THAT first. STL is looking like an early lotto pick. That could change, but for now, that pick appears to be the one to hold onto.

My Preferred Lines and Thoughts on Our Salary Situation
It seems pretty clear that Brassard to PIT and Nash to BOS set off an arms race for TBL. They have a 2 year window now, but they will have to move (or let go) current assets due to finances when that window is up. That being said, the cap is definitely going to go up. So that will alleviate some financial pressure.

How did Sweeney do?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItWasIn</b></div><div>I think Boston overpaid for Nash, but it's at the deadline so 'tis the season.</div></div>
When you look at the fact that Boston gets the rental value of Nash (although undetermined) and also unloaded 50% of Matt Belesky (or about $6 million over 3 years), the value evens out. It's also possible that Boston may not have had a lot of cap room for Spooner this upcoming season, so moving him may have been inevitable. Ultimately, I think this will play out pretty even overall.
As for Nick Holden, if he plays on the 3rd pairing, he should be solid. If he plays on the 2nd, he should be over-matched. If he plays on the 1st, you should be concerned. Problem is that Boston should play Grzelcyk, Miller, and McQuaid ahead of him. Holden is on the roster as an injury hedge.

Based just on cap space alone, we're likely looking at salary retention by Buffalo. Also speculation, but with SJS not having a 2nd and 3rd rounder already, we can be looking at that 1st going back to Buffalo. Probably more details incoming.

Yeah, these are all pretty reasonable. I posted a pretty similar trade bundle about a week ago, but didn't get much of a response.
I don't know if Grabner gets a first if you're also getting an NHL'er back, but the rest of the values are dead on for rental value.
As for selling Zuc or McD, you'd be looking at a relatively massive price for both players. I don't think many teams would be willing to sell the farm for them.

Sabres trade deadline
I don't think I can see any of these happening. Most of these trades are highly over-valued in Buffalo's favor.
Pouliot shouldn't get two 3rd's and Gorges even with retained money isn't worth one 3rd.
Matt Moulson is currently buried in Buffalo and his contract is awful. If you're looking to get rid of Moulson, you're probably looking at giving up your 2nd rounder for maybe a 6th in return. Yes, it's that bad.
I don't see Myers being moved out of WPG for a low depth D-man and a 4th liner. That's even with no retained money. Myers is worth more.
I don't think CBJ would need to augment their back-up situation. Perhaps a team like VGK, who has been plagued by injuries at goalie may be a better choice. I think the value is dead on for this trade though.
The Kane trade is interesting, but remember that Brodie has a 15-team NTC list. I doubt he would waive that to go to Buffalo. I don't know about Calgary's needs though so I can't comment other than that.

This exactly. Also, Kane doesn't fill the biggest offensive need that NYR has, which is center. NYR may consider ROR, but I doubt they would look at Kane right now.

I think the value is there for this trade. Nicely done.
I'm not sure the Ottawa trade changes the position of any of the teams involved though. It's also pretty risky for the Pens. Believe it or not, the Pens may not make the playoffs this year, which would make their 1st much more valuable than usual. That means it's possible that Ottawa actually comes out on top in this deal.
As for the McGinn trade, I'm not really knowledgeable about either player involved so someone else will have to comment.
