He certainly does. I edited my first comment to say "aren't" when referring to Sundqvist. He's too big of a part on that team.

What is the future for Buchnevich
Unless he's part of a deal to bring back a prospect who projects as a 1 or 2C....or a deal to bring back a current middle 6 C ....or of course part of a "pipedream" type deal to bring back someone like Eichel....Buch should be going nowhere. Lock him up at 5-5.5M for 5 or 6 yrs. Buch has managed to navigate the waters of his poor deployment and usage his first few years to find his niche....not a superstar (which is why he should top out in the 5-5.5M range)...but a productive player who can slot in at 1,2,or 3RW and drive play. Kakko is hopefully the future 1RW and Krav figures along the RW as well...but for now neither is pushing Buch for his spot so need to "jettison" him. NYR have developed him- so pay him what he's worth and get the fruits of that development.

I wouldn't trade a young, team-controlled top 6 winger without a 1st round pick coming back. The Calgary trade is rough for NY imo.

Time to think about moving Mika
I wouldn't think of trading him at the moment..not only would NYR be giving up on the season, they would be selling low. Reality is that Zibs was probably due for a step back from last year's production...but the way the season was patched together- and the fact he himself dealt with Covid...I wouldn't be too quick to send him packing. Unless provided an overwhelming offer (doubt it), I would see where the team is as the TDL approaches...this Ranger team has played better than their record shows...and with some real good players on their way back into the lineup, if Zibs turns a corner this still may be a playoff team. If they are not really in the playoff hunt come TDL I would only move him if a top C prospect were coming back...think Newhook, Krebs, etc. If those teams turn their nose up then wish them luck with their current center depth in dealing with the likes of Tampa in trying to win within their current window...at this point, wait to see what the off season brings in terms of extending him or moving him to a wider group of teams looking to deal.

Would you like Compher throw in? Because that could be an option.
1st + good prospect seems pretty reasonable considering that Buchnevich is going to price himself out with his next contract.

it ok to have an expensive 3rd liner when u have a bunch of others playing entry level. and powerhouse 3rd line is a nice way for rangers to get some mismatches and turn into a contender.

LOVE the Cernak deal. Would jump on that in a heartbeat.
I'd roll the dice on that Josh Anderson deal too. I don't think two 3rd rounders gets it done, maybe give CBJ back their 2nd and add a 4th or 5th?
I'd pass on M Karlsson, and I'd be surprised if SJS didn't resign him anyway.
The only real flaw here, IMO, is that 2nd pairing. I think they'd get eaten up every night and I'd rather see Zub with Wolanin. If Wolanin stumbles THEN you can try Borowiecki or Reilly.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vosse9</b></div><div>Figured Ottawa has enough picks and prospects they could pick up a couple young vets like Anderson and Cernak to enhance the rebuild. A little overpay on Anderson but I’d give it a go with all those assets. Thought Karlsson was a little better and wanted a reliable vet to play with the younger kids, cover up for them defensively. Honestly wasn’t familiar with the goalie situation. Forsberg would easily clear waivers for Högberg in this scenario</div></div>
I'm not opposed to Anderson entirely, but not at that price. I'd probably take a flyer on him if it was two 3rds or something though. I do like Cernak as an option for Ottawa.
Karlsson is basically a replacement level player. No reason for him to play over Drake Batherson, who should comfortably be top six ready next year.
Also looking purely at the numbers doesn't really tell the full story for Hogberg. He was easily the best goalie Ottawa had this year, and he gave the Sens a chance to win every night. He was like a .910 sv% most of the season, but he got shelled in one game and it cratered his stats. Signing a goalie is not an option for Ottawa. Sens have to solid NHL goalies, and three prospects in the AHL/ECHL. they are full to bursting with goalies.

Overall, I think you've got a solid setup. Couple of points:
1. Other than the Bowey contract, I think you are pretty close with everyone else on the RFA side. Bowey did show some improvement after he was demoted, but not enough to earn that raise. He's is a non-tender candidate (but most likely a trade candidate). I think you can add Perlini to the list of RFAs though. I know he didn't do much after his trade, but Steve could get him for below the waiver dump price, and assign him to GR if need be (they'll have several holes to fill in GR as well on the F side).
2. I'm not sure Veleno graduates just yet (he may finish the year in DET though), but I believe Rasmussen will be given every chance to graduate and center the 3rd line. I think your Cs will be (in order): Larkin, Fils, Rasmussen, Nielsen.
3. I think the Honka trade is spot on value-wise. Basically, DET is sliding down a couple rounds to pick a "known" entity, which is in Yzerman's MO.
4. The Lehner debate is interesting. $6mm is on the higher end of his value, but not so outrageous. Would Lehner come to DET? Who needs a 1A goalie? DET, SJS, OTT, BUF are the 4 obvious teams that have G needs, and they are all in the same boat rebuild-wise (though, after this draft, those fortunes may change for DET and OTT). BUF is kinda stuck in no-mans land, and SJS is just starting their rebuild (or retool, I think it's rebuild). I had been offering another goalie: Cam Talbot. He can be the 1B to Bernier's 1A (if you look at Bernier's play, he played REALLY well for a VERY bad DET team, numbers be damned). He'd probably come in with a smaller, shorter contract as well (I know cap isn't an issue). While DET doesn't have anyone close prospect-wise to play G, they aren't contending yet either, so your need may change in the future.
5. I think Abdelkader is really a waiver option at this point. Unless something dramatically changes with him, he's been passed over by several players in GR (Smith for sure, Pearson is pretty close as well). Erne would fill some of his role, and Svech needs a spot. Timashov showed a lot in his short time too, which you have him in the lineup.
6. There is going to be a big battle between Seider and Lindstrom. They'll want Seider to graduate, but Lindstrom may be the safe option. I also think they want Cholowski to graduate as well. If they want a "vet" to come up, it wouldn't surprise me if Lashoff is that guy instead of an FA. Known entity in the org/league, spent time with both Seider and Lindstrom, could be more of a mentor for the kids.
Overall, extremely solid. This draft could change things significantly (especially if they get 1OA or 2OA). They are also big on the UFA European market, so that may change this up as well. I don't think DET is as far away from contending as others believe, and help is definitely coming.

Honestly pretty good. Not much to say out side of the typical you could sign a few other depth/AHL players who played well last year.
My only comment is after Jarmos comments the other day I don’t see Dubinsky playing NHL again. His career very well could be over with a chronic wrist injury.

even with the massive contracts coming up, Avs can easily spend up to 7m this UFA, even with a flat cap, and wont have issues signing Landeskog, Makar, and later down the line MacKinnon
Their contract lengths and cap is in a good spot for the next few years
