Yes the D corps is risky but do you see this forward group.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Ultimate_Pielord</b></div><div>Yeah FA is probably the best option to fill out the D corps. The original version of this had Pettersson instead of ZAR and Henrique instead of Fleury, but ended up over the 2021 cap, and I felt like I needed a solid chunk for the RFA budget. I probably over-corrected on that front, though. MacDonald did play really easy minutes this year but on the other hand he absolutely slaughtered them, and his AHL numbers are impressive too. Sort of like that one college football team that went undefeated for 3 years straight because they played in an easy conference, it's tough to gauge where he is until he actually gets some competition. CDH is a good idea, too.
JVR definitely makes sense, yeah. At the time I was worried about the cap hit and the potential non-Ghost D corps, but in retrospect grabbing JVR and probably swapping out Domi for cap space would've made the team better.
Senko just feels like a risk Seattle doesn't need to take, given the injuries it's really possible it's a 7 mil cap hit for nothing, and Duchene's term kinda scares me.</div></div>
I like the possibility of flipping Domi for assets, and CBJ hasn’t left anything available really.
I completely agree on your last paragraph. I left them off my initial mock, but did take RyJo. I am planning on leaving him off my final though.
Not gonna lie, I think the Eberle pick isn’t great…he’s not very flippable and the cap hit / term combo is scary for me. I would go with Aho instead of him, but I know I saw you comment you really liked Eberle’s game.

I really like most of these selections. Do you plan on signing Landeskog and all those RFAs/other UFAs? How does that go down?

MacDonald's minutes were so sheltered last year. He played great, but I would be surprised to see him thrive as a top pairing dman.
I have a question. If you are going for a kickass forward corp, why take GhostBear (who is a major risk) and leave JVR on the table? I know JVR's cap hit is higher, but only a bit and for two years. Plus he is still a fantastic forward.
To fill that GhostBear hole on the defense, you could choose Zadorov or de Haan instead of Subban and use Kinkaid as your backup. Or you could spend more money and swap Vanecek for Petterrson. Or you could hope to sign Ryan Suter, Ian Cole, Dougie Hamilton, or whoever you like best in free agency. Just a thought. This is interesting overall. I am a little surprised a forward-focused draft doesn't feature Tarasenko and/or Duchene as well. But I understand the cap hits are ridiculous.

One of a million expansion drafts
I like the defense-heavy approach. Do you know which players you would expect them to unload for picks? Or would they keep all 12 dmen?

They could maybe swing this
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>russ02</b></div><div>Yea I think you're right with respect to Jost and Timmins, although if i over value them, I think its somewhere a million over, combined. I think Landy would take that deal with the avs, but he certainly could get more on the open market.</div></div>
Yeah, I agree. I think Landy would take a really similar deal with the Avs, but I still think that is a tad too low. Especially if the report that he turned down a 5.25x8 is accurate. If that report is accurate, then he is thinking that 42 million is too low for him, even considering a team discount.

I like this, but I think that is too much for Timmins and Jost, and not quite enough for Grubi or Landy. I think Grubi is probably at least 500,000 more on the AAV, and I think any long term deal for Landy would need to clear 42 million total. But I hope something like this happens! Although, I doubt Jumbo Joe would leave Toronto

just messing around
I mean, maybe he hasn't earned that. I don't know, and goalies are weird. He was a Vezina finalist, so I bet his ask will be somewhere around there. The thing with the Landy contract is that I think the overall number matters more than the AAV. At 6.25x8, it comes in at 50 million total. I imagine Grubi will come in between 5 and 6.5 million, and I went with the high number here as a worst-case scenario.

Fixing teams pt 2
I am not sure Colorado would trade a fourth for two extra days of bargaining with a guy that they would sign to (at most) a 2 year deal. Maybe I am wrong though. But from my perspective, I think the Avs decline that unless it is a 6th round pick they send away.

DNVR Submission for Oct8
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>I’m talking down the line. Kadri’s contract and Newhook’s arrival dovetail does nicely. And it’s hard to not count on a kid that is rated as one of the 10 best prospects in the league, that was the NCAA frosh of the year. Damn Covid him and Byram need to play.</div></div>
I totally get this concern, but don’t you cross that bridge when you come to it? It seems like the year MacKinnon’s deal is up is the first year the cap might rise after COVID. And who knows, maybe (God forbid) MacKinnon were to get injured in his first year on the new contract. Wouldn’t you have wished that you pushed the chips to the table and got the pieces to win a cup while he was on a cheap deal? I think Laine makes them, without any doubt, the cup favorites for the next two years. I am willing to give up a potentially good 2c in Newhook for that.
All I’m saying is that three years is a lot of time for anything to happen (as COVID should show us), and the Avs have a good team now. This would make them better, and it wouldn’t put them in an entirely unmanageable spot for the future. It might be tricky to figure out, but not impossible. I think that’s all you can ask for in a trade. Get better today, don’t close off <em>all</em> your escape routes for the future. (Also, I would hope to use the Ottawa deal to start replenishing the prospect pool so maybe we could develop a 2c. Lol. Avs. Develop!)

I think Colorado can handle the cap issues. It might be touchy, but championship teams figure it out

Yeah, I agree. I honestly don’t know why I added that 3rd lol. Just greedy. I think they might go for the swap for the two picks though. Depends on how the draft falls. They have enough picks to trade if they like a guy at 25
