Description
General thoughts:

I would want to sign Landeskog to a 7x7 deal with this roster. I am not sure how to do that on here, or if it is possible.

Also, I love how y’all assume this is for more than a three year cup run lol. Reassess salary stuff when we arrive at MacKinnon’s next deal. Maybe you don’t sign Laine. But if this gives you the cup in the short term, go for it.

Why not just keep Newhook? Do you really want Laine and his expensive salary demands?

I'm curious as to why Jost and Compher are available? What's the verdict on these guys?

Ottawa declines, you keep trying to work a #25 for #28 trade, but you can’t gauge the value until it’s time for the #25 pick, and a mid second is too much to include with the 28th to get Jost. I like Jost, and I wouldn’t mind acquiring Jost, but I liked Paajarvi too.

This feels like 3 card monty

They can but then you have to figure out a cost effective 2C which they traded away to get Laine. But you’re right it’s not a good idea long term.

Compher is maddening, he looks like a stud then disappears and might be a really good 3rd line wing PK guy. Jost imo has just been mishandled by the Avs. He was too good to be sent down when he should have but needs to be with some skilled guys. OTT would take the deal above and run he could be a 30-40 MAYBE 45 pt guy if he got a regular 2nd line shift some regular PP and be a good young leader with a winning pedigree. But again that’s my opinion.

Oh man I can already see Hellebuyck getting yanked after Laine ripped a bunch of powerplay goals past him!.. Lol

Your cost effective 2c is Kadri. Newhook with his zero NHL games is a prospect who may turn into an NHLer. Don't count your chickens before they hatch

I’m talking down the line. Kadri’s contract and Newhook’s arrival dovetail does nicely. And it’s hard to not count on a kid that is rated as one of the 10 best prospects in the league, that was the NCAA frosh of the year. Damn Covid him and Byram need to play.

I mean I don't see Laine going to a divisional rival at all, but if COL offered that I probably wouldn't turn it down.

I totally get this concern, but don’t you cross that bridge when you come to it? It seems like the year MacKinnon’s deal is up is the first year the cap might rise after COVID. And who knows, maybe (God forbid) MacKinnon were to get injured in his first year on the new contract. Wouldn’t you have wished that you pushed the chips to the table and got the pieces to win a cup while he was on a cheap deal? I think Laine makes them, without any doubt, the cup favorites for the next two years. I am willing to give up a potentially good 2c in Newhook for that.

All I’m saying is that three years is a lot of time for anything to happen (as COVID should show us), and the Avs have a good team now. This would make them better, and it wouldn’t put them in an entirely unmanageable spot for the future. It might be tricky to figure out, but not impossible. I think that’s all you can ask for in a trade. Get better today, don’t close off all your escape routes for the future. (Also, I would hope to use the Ottawa deal to start replenishing the prospect pool so maybe we could develop a 2c. Lol. Avs. Develop!)
