NJ Fans what does it take to land Zacha Vatanen
I really like the idea of trading Vatanen to the Leafs. He's the type of player they can really benefit from. And plus he's only got one year left on his deal.
That said, any deal with the Leafs is going to involve Kapanen going the other way and if the Devils are retaining salary (which they likely would), that complicates things a bit. I'm not SUPER interested in trading Zacha in general either. Devils probably want some kind of a young defenseman coming back to fill out that hole in the organization too. Leafs are fortunate to have a few pretty good players in that area too.
So maybe... something like this:
To NJD: Kapanen, Borgman
To TOR: Vatanen (50% retained), Zacha, 2019 2nd

Different Look - Some grit
Honestly the first trade is spot-on and something I'd love to see the Devils do this offseason. Got worse from there though.
Not sure what that other guy is thinking but Carolina probably laughs at you for that one. Pesce is one of the best young defenders in the league.

trouba to devils option
Zacha is probably the heir to Zajac's throne of 3rd line center but McLeod has the potential to end up there too.. I would do the trade as is but wouldn't be in LOVE with trading my best defensive center and one of the players that might succeed him in that spot.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Zwui21</b></div><div>Lol no way in hell that Tampa takes that</div></div>
It's one too many valuable pieces. I think Miller/Callahan for a similar package (nothing retained by Tampa, of course) would probably be OK. Adding a prospect is probably too much.

Trades are bad but you nailed the plan with Kapanen. That's exactly what I see the Devils doing this offseason.

You're living in a ******* fantasy world if you think that Boeser is worth that much. You're giving up a (potentially) great forward, a good defenseman and a decent goalie for a top 10 goalie, a high tier forward prospect and an established top 9 player. Pure delusion.

Devils do not need depth forwards. We need defensemen. Pretty solid at forwards with our young kids stepping in.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barathrum_Obama</b></div><div>Gardiner is good. this trade seriously lacks value, even if you take on Lupuls contract</div></div>
Eh, it's not actually that bad for the Leafs. Getting a 2nd and Speers is really good (Speers looks to be an NHLer as soon as this year). Kujawinski might end up being a bottom six guy with more seasoning. You clear Lupul's deal and with Gardiner out, you get down below the cap again. Honestly think it's pretty fair.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Valley_Milkman</b></div><div>
Also curious what NJD fans think of the other deal. It obviously implies the the Devils are moving towards competing sooner, but I think it might be something that they consider sooner rather than later given Schneider's age.</div></div>
Terrible trade for NJ. Giving up one of our top prospects and a 1st in next year's stacked draft for a cap dump in Ryan and a bit of an overrated player in Ceci. I'd be interested in those players in other deals but not involving these assets.
I would actually really love the idea of getting Ryan for like a mid-round pick and a decent prospect. Devils are light on RW, Ryan is from the area and would be a nice veteran to add to the young squad. Ottawa wants to get out of that contract and we have the cap space.

Yeah not sure where you're getting that Palmieri hasn't worked in our system. He's had the best two years of his career here and is arguably our most valuable forward behind Hall.

Schmidt would be an acceptable replacement for Theodore as well. I know Vegas doesn't want to move them but going up to #1, you gotta overpay. And to be clear, it's Theodore and 2 1sts. The idea is that they trade up to #3 by giving Dallas an extra 1st, leaving Vegas with 2 1sts: #3 and #13.

Girardi has been one of the worst possession players in the league in recent years. Not only should the Devils not go after him. I doubt he'll be able to find a contract anywhere. More likely he signs a PTO.

They're not in the same stratosphere. Nurse is way way way better.

Pommer is overpayed but not a huge salary dump. Wild could retain salary and get a decent return for him.
Both players make the NJD better, and the Wild worse.</div></div>
The Wild can't really retain salary. That's the problem. Between Granlund and Nino, they have to shell out big bucks this summer and don't really have the space to mess around, especially if they want to improve themselves more by adding other players.

Honestly can't believe someone looked at that trade and said "Yeah. That's probably enough."
You're talking a #1 overall pick AND a potential 30 goal scorer. It's Sergachev, Galchenyuk, Beaulieu and a pick swap AT LEAST.

Am I missing something on that COL trade? Because it looks like we're trading #1 overall AND our best goalie prospect for a worse pick this year and a 2nd rounder. That makes absolutely no sense.

Realistic Outlook Possibilities
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>How often does a rebuilding team basically win free agency? Not often. It's hard to imagine that both Eaves and Shattenkirk, regardless of dollars, would want to sign with a rebuilding team, especially when the Devils will apparently need to compete with a $6.5 million + AAV over 7 year offer from the Rangers for Shattenkirk. The Ducks like Eaves very much, as well. I think the Devils would be much wiser to take on some short-term bargain contracts, which they can then turn into future assets at next years trade deadline.</div></div>
Not interested in Eaves personally but Shattenkirk makes a ton of sense for the Devils. Getting a stable D-man that can move the puck will help us take a huge step forward. Plus we have the money AND he's been adamant about being a #1, which he would easily be here. And frankly, I don't think the Rangers can afford him without making some significant changes. Too many RFAs to re-sign.

Not sure why the Devils would trade our best defenseman (when our biggest need is defense) for an older, worse D prospect and a F over the age of 30.
