Lines and Reasoning
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nhl_oilers</b></div><div>I still think swapping Kahun, and Nuge is the best option.. Nuge and McDavid played very well in the play in. Kassian can play with them for now, unless Puljujarvi does very well and makes it to the first line. Draisaitl and Yamamoto have unbelievable chemistry, and throw in Kahun, and that could be deadly. I say swap Neal, and Ennis as well, because Neal is just a PP specialist, and Ennis is actually pretty decent!</div></div>
Maybe so. I just think the drop off from removing Nuge from the 2nd Line is greater than what the benefit is of adding him to the 1st Line. RNH has great chemistry with Leon and Yamo, which is what makes that line so great.

I'd like to hear the reasoning behind this. Here's mine. Let's say RNH scores 40 ish points this season, which is right around his career points/game average. You think a team is going to offer him 7M + ?? in the current state of things? I mean in FA anything can happen but that means they are paying him to be their 1st Line C. If RNH wants to take a few extra hundred thousand $ to be a teams 1st Line then sure, but I don't think a team with RNH as their top guy is going to do much... and I would think he wants to win. Flanking one of 97 or 29 is an infinitely better situation than what you're suggesting.

Eichel is a GREAT player but you can't mortgage everything for one guy, even if it is Eichel. If BUF was seriously looking to move Eichel to COL it would probably look like Kadri, Timmins, maybe Annunen or Beaucage or another B+ prospect, and maybe 2020 1st and 2021 2nd. Newhook and Byram are the untouchables IMO.</div></div>
Hate to tell you, but that's probably the price you have to pay for Eichel. Top 10 player in the league.

If the Oilers could move Russel without take salary back, then it could work.

Lagesson isn't a mediocre prospect, he is NHL ready. Saving 2.5 M to help sign Petro and also potentially being able to draft a Jack Quinn, Dawson Mercer , etc . Larsson fits perfect on the Blues 2nd pair. Parayko will need a new deal in 2 years as well, and will probably make north of 7M on his next deal.

I can assure you Nurse won't be traded for Debrusk. He's be part of a bigger deal if he even gets moved. Which I doubt. Oilers view him as part of the core.

Nurse is a number 3 on a contending team. And it is a lot of assets. Winnipeg could easy flip the 1st for something else and also comes into 21/22 with an extra 1st to play with? It's a lot.

Horrible aftermath it’s a trade that will continue to subtract long after the trade. Deals like nurse for Tatar or Drouin are more plausible targets that fit team need and can be worked into current cap situation.</div></div>

Adding in the protections on the draft pick ensure that they don’t do this trade.
Besides I don’t think they’re interested in trading Hammer. They’d rather trade Demers, Goligoski, and Oesterle before they’d get rid of him.</div></div>
I understand if you don't think the trade works. But I don't really agree with your points. Samarukov is much better than a B- prospect. He's the Oilers 3rd best D prospect behind Bouchard and Broberg who are both A prospects. Russel wouldn't be a long term player obviously. But he plays the same position and the salary makes it work. Goligoski might garner interest but the other two won't bring you much back. I highly doubt the Coyotes re sign Hjal. And a deadline move would bring you much less than here. I honestly believe this is a slight overpay for the Oilers trading two good future assets in exchange for two guys with 1 year left before they can walk. But you have to give to get.

Tell me why. Both 1 year left until UFA. You guys don't have a 1st this year or next, and no 2nd next. Are you re signing an aging Hjalmarsson? And you already have Kuemper. Samarukov is a solid prospect also.

I think a straight up deal Klefbom for Ehlers is a good trade for both teams. Maybe Oilers add a prospect. But Wpg still has Schief, Wheeler, Laine, Connor in their top 6. If Edmonton can't land a 60 point player then it is not worth trading Klefbom whatsoever

Anyone could play with Connor. The point of trading Klefbom would be to get someone better than a 40 point guy to play with Connor 😐
