Quoting: Jambo
Friedge thinks they might move him. Nurse Jones and Broberg on the way. Changes are going to happen and I wouldn't call it off so soon. Buch could play with Connor. Unless you think Kassian is really the guy. Just throwing it out there
Nurse can't pass the puck or contribute on the power play like Klefbom can, his game is different. Jones showed well this past season, but he lacks experience and it may be very risky having both him and Bear in the top-4, especially if Bouchard is pushing for a top-4 spot later in the season. Broberg is 19 years old and is booked for another season in Sweden.
The guys playing the wings on Edmonton's top line need to be able to retrieve pucks in traffic, crash the net, consistently be ready for the puck in the offensive zone, and back check hard. They don't need to be offensive stars, they just need to be able to think quickly, get to open ice, shoot the puck well, and play a responsible 200-foot game. Think about it, playing with McDavid made Maroon a 27 goal player, Chiasson a 22 goal player, and Kassian a potential 20 goal guy. None of those guys have ever been close to that kind of offensive production away from McDavid. Both Maroon and Kassian lack the defensive acumen necessary to push that top line to higher heights, and Chiasson doesn't have the foot speed to keep up.
No doubt Buchnevich has a great deal of offensive potential, but like Maroon and Kassian he is also lacking in areas of the game that are necessary in order to properly compliment McDavid. There are players out there who are probably a better fit, and shopping Klefbom is likely to result in their availability. Holland will have options, and Gorton will have competition.
