Description
If Patrik Laine becomes available as has been rumored, should the Isles go after him? He'd probably be good for 35-40 goals playing alongside Barzal.

Trades
1.
NYI
  1. Gagner, Sam
Additional Details:
Boychuk at $4MM is probably a better deal that a comparable defenseman would get in FA. Isles get an OK-ish bottom 6 winger with some offensive upside and clear some salary in the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
EDM
  1. Boychuk, Johnny ($2,000,000 retained)
2.
NYI
  1. Laine, Patrik [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Isles get Laine and sign him to a 5 year, $7.5MM AAV deal which buys out his first UFA year but puts him in line for another big payday at that point.

As far as the package going to Winnipeg, Leddy makes sense if they move Trouba. If they keep Trouba, maybe swap Beauvillier instead (and deal Leddy elsewhere for picks and/or prospects) . May need to add another draft pick going to Winnipeg in either scenario (2020 2nd rounder?)
WPG

That's a reasonable Boychuk deal. Not to mention he's from the EDM area. I like it

Any potential deal for Laine (if available) would include Walstrom, Beau, 1st, and Aho or Wilde. Then the Isles have to come to terms on a contract, which would be about $8m to $9m per year. In that scenario you can only afford Laine or Lee to then sign Barzal, Pulock and Toews the next year. Seems like they are better off singing their core players and targeting a guy like Reilly Smith from Vegas since they need to move cap.

I dont think they are trying to trade him, bc the team has so much RFA control on him yet, but I wouldn't be shocked to find out that Jets are listening to offers for him.

I think the choice between Laine and Lee would be easy as Laine. That trade may be a little rich, but it's probably worth it.

I do agree that targeting Reilly Smith is a better move for the Islanders. He'd be a great fit here, and we can probably get Eakin from them too.
