MTL says no, that's too much for Laine. Maybe if he was already signed to a reasonable contract but he's not signed so that takes away value.

Really it's just Domi and a 2nd, Byron and Kulak don't have much value.

Given that he's without a contract as of now, an actual agreement would have to be in place at fair value otherwise the risk of holding out or not agreeing to anything less then $8.5M is too great for MTL to assume liability on and give up Domi, Byron, Kulak and a 2nd. Also, if the Jets want a center in return, not sure MTL has any to spare.
