From Vancouver’s perspective, I’m not sure the trade gets them much further than today. They save on one year of Baerschi’s salary, but will need to sign JP. If he can’t crack the top six in Vancouver, they will be in a similar situation as they are with Goldy or Baerschi.

I think it’s a mistake to accelerate things. They have young wingers coming, they will have cap issues, they have already traded one of their firsts, and they will need ELC contracts. Besides, this is supposed to be a good draft. It’s a creative trade, but Vancouver should pass
