I think the reason Poehling has moved to the wing is less and less about Thompson “securing” the 4C spot, and more that the Habs have zero interest in developing Poehling as a 4th line player, and they don’t see him bumping Danault, KK, or Suzuki at C. Hence the move to LW.

With that being said, Poehling ain’t going on the 4th line. So 1st line minutes in Laval it is

Poehling in Laval for three reasons.
1st he doesn't beling on a 4th line
2nd better give him top 6 minutes in Laval than 10 mins in the NHL for his development.
3nd Laval is pushing for a playoff spot and Poehling could help them making it.
