Description
I am not excited by that third line but if we'd go out and make those two cap deals we'll need to shed salary ourselves by sending Domi out of town. Not a line up filled with offensive weapons but in the third year of a rebuild it should be enough to go through it.

-Draftees:
8th: Rossi
11th: Quinn (Or Holloway)
30th: Foerster
39th: Wiesblatt
40th: Jack Finley (There you have your usual off the board Montreal pick, listed as 4th-5th rounder every where but Mckenzie has him in the second so I'm not crazy!)

The Canadiens stock up on physical players (Finley's a giant, Wiesblatt an agitator and Foerster's a power forward to be) after finding -and trading for- high end skill guys (Ylonen, Beckman, Caufield, Rossi). After getting Foote and all their draftees Montreal decides to take it slow on defenders this year.

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Foote, Cal
  2. Gourde, Yanni
Additional Details:
We give TB a cap relief and take on a guy that becomes our best prospect on the right side.
TBL
  1. Lindgren, Charlie
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Tampa Bay receives a 2nd rounder which is far from Foote's value but taking that cap hit comes at this expense. Lindgren's sent because after this season TB only has 2 goaltenders signed so he'll have space to shine in Syracuse!
PS: First time trying this deal, give your comments on the value.
2.
MTL
  1. Steen, Alexander
  2. 2020 1st round pick (STL)
  3. 2020 5th round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Jumping back into the first round by taking Steen's a decent deal.
STL
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (STL)
Additional Details:
Deal seen somewhere else that I really like. I've added a late pick because I feel there's place value wise for a mid-fifth to be added.
3.
MTL
  1. Beckman, Adam
  2. 2020 1st round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
Beckman's a scoring machine in the OHL and with the 11th pick Montreal would go get Jack Quinn, another scoring machine. Both are a couple years off the big league but that's one of the only trades I'd do with Domi.
MIN
  1. Domi, Max [RFA Rights]
  2. 2020 3rd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Minnesota finally gets their center for years to come, the deal comes in with an extension. With the third round pick Minnesota could get Thimo Nickl.

I’ve also seen some STL fans wanting something similar to Marleau so he could sign back with them cheap.

Easy no for us. Domi is good and I like him, but he's not worth the WHL player of the year in his draft year +1 season and the 11th overall pick

I don't think the Lightning can make that deal as they currently have zero RD signed after this year. They have the rights to Cernak but that is it. Not sure if they can give up their most NHL ready prospect at a huge position of need who could play next year on his ELC where every penny will count for them.

Picks or prospects could obviously be swapped to bring it to fair value but at the draft table I could see MIN not liking what's left on the board and making the deal. Maybe an early 3rd and a 4th (Value wise backend of 2nd round) could make it more even. I know Beckman's a valued prospect but having already Kaprisov coming in and being able to grab another excellent winger prospect with PIT pick could make sense because you'd solve your center position for the next 5-6 years (At least) and you never know what the pick can become.

I like the players projected to go around 11. In general I just don't Domi is worth this much. He's a good player, but I've been scouting Habs games from this season over the past few weeks and I do like him but not this much. Kaprizov plays RW and Beckman plays LW so I don't get why that would be a factor. Plus it'll likely be another year or two before he gets NHL looks so we have plenty of time to find space for him. Also, we have an excellent winger prospect with Beckman, so why would we trade an excellent winger prospect and hope the PIT pick turns into an excellent winger prospect...?
