Simple question.... Leafs trade Marner to Ottawa for Pick numbers 3 and 5 of 2020 NHL Draft.

Marner's actual salary drops dramatically moving forward after his signing bonus is paid for next season.

Leafs re-sign their RFA's and Spezza as a UFA 4th line centre.

Leafs draft Tim Stutzle at #3 and Jamie Drysdale, (RHD) or Yaroslav Askarov (Goalie), at #5.

They are left with 10 million dollars to do what they want with.

As a neutral third party fan, don't think Marner is worth 3 and 5, probably one of those and the Islanders 1st is closer. Keep in mind he was drafted at #4... he isn't likely to be worth two picks of the same caliber

Toronto loves this trade. Free up some cap plus get Byfield/Stützle and Drysdale? Heck ya from them. Ottawa isn’t giving up those two for Marner

Ottawa say no without much hesitation, imo. I asked the same question except with Eichel instead of Marner (and assuming the picks were #3 and #4 - it was before the lottery), and most Sens fans that responded didn't even entertain that.

Ottawa. Although Marner is a really good player he is not worth two top 5 picks in a very deep draft. It could be Marner for two players that end up as good a Marner.
