Why not trade Jug to Ottawa and buyout or bury JJ? I wouldn't mind if it was for like... a 2020 6th? Better than nothing, right?

Ottawa declines easily. They're not giving up anything of value if they're taking Johnson back, especially not Duclair. Gaborik is covered by insurance so they don't gain much by trading him out, and Duclair is the best player in this trade by a massive margin, so just no. Could drop Duclair from it and then it's closer. Gotta pay something to get rid of Johnson.

That literally made me laugh.

Duclair is a scoring 3rd liner on Ottawa, and would have to fight to be a 3rd liner in Pittsburgh.

Murray is a starting goalie.

The price Pittsburgh is paying here to move Johnson is giving Murray to Ottawa for little return, ie: a 3rd liner Duclair. Ottawa wins this deal with just those three pieces. The 2nd is not necessary, Pittsburgh taking Gaborik is not necessary.
