Description
I think this team looks a lot better, and a lot more skilled that last year. With the drafting of Anton Lundell, I believe he can step into an NHL lineup right away next year as he is probably the most NHL-ready prospect behind Alexis Lafreniere. Especially given the uncertainty of if certain leagues will even play. Inserting players on ELCs will be huge in a flat cap world for the next couple years.

I contemplated about trading Jonas Brodin and the 9th pick to LA for the 2nd overall to select Quinton Byfield. Not sure that would get done even if Brodin signs an extension in LA knowing he would be on the first pairing with Drew Doughty. King’s fans, what do you think? Thanks!

I believe Kahkonen needs a fair shot to see if he’s the goalie of the future or not. I know scouts say they don’t see it, but how do you know for sure if you don’t try? That’s why picking up Georgiev makes a lot of sense for the Wild. Play Georgiev for about 50 games and Kahkonen 30 games.

With Eric Staal still under contract for one more year, I believe the Wild will hold onto both Brodin and Dumba, for now. I don’t see very many top-six centers available this year. However, that could change next year with the Seattle expansion draft. It is best to hold onto both for now.

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

Trades
1.
MIN
  1. Bellows, Kieffer
  2. Boychuk, Johnny
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
The Wild receive a serviceable defenseman in the event Dumba or Pateryn is traded, a goal scorer in Bellows and a future draft pick. Noah Dobson will step into the void next year left by Boychuk’s departure.
NYI
  1. Parise, Zach
Additional Details:
Lou Lamoriello revisits the trade from the trade deadline and brings in a winger whom he is familiar with from his days in New Jersey and fits the Islanders grinding style.
2.
MIN
  1. Georgiev, Alexandar [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
The Wild receive a young goalie to pair with Kahkonen going forward. The two-goalie tandem seems to be the trend given how far teams like the Canucks and Golden Knights have gone in this year’s playoffs.
NYR
  1. Greenway, Jordan [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
I see Jordan Greenway fitting in New York. I believe he needs a fresh start and could flourish in a role where he isn’t depended on as heavy given the amount of star power the Rangers have. This would also open up an opportunity for the Rangers to use a winger like Buchnevich to trade in order to get help on defense.
3.
MIN
  1. 2020 3rd round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
Opens up a spot if the Wild want to give Calen Addison a shot at all this year.
TBL
  1. Pateryn, Greg ($1,125,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Tampa Bay could use another defenseman on the cheap if Zach Bogosian and Kevin Shattenkirk decide to leave.
4.
MIN
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Opens a roster spot for Georgiev.
SJS
  1. Stalock, Alex
Additional Details:
The Sharks could use a quality backup with Aaron Dell likely leaving. They get a guy in Stalock whom they are familiar with and on a very cheap contract.

The Islanders can no longer afford the cap of the Parise deal. Unfortunately is a dead deal.
