Description
Not sure if anyone knows, but could some team (not necessarily Ottawa, just using for cap purposes) offer sheet Tampa right now, and force their hand to make a trade? Consider this scenario:

Tampa currently sits at a cap hit of $87,654,166 (let's call it $87.65 million for easy math). The max overage ceiling is 10% over the cap ceiling of $81.5 million, making the absolute max ceiling $89.65 million. Can a team force Tampa to make a trade similar to how Vegas had to trade to clear cap for Pietrangelo? If a team such as Ottawa were to make an offer sheet of anywhere over $2 million, they would be over the max ceiling of $89.65 million. Then Tampa has exactly a week to match the offer sheet, or let Cirelli walk. In that time, a team (Ottawa) could also offer Tampa a trade to take on the cap of a player (Johnson, Killorn, etc.) for cheap if not for free.

Someone who understands the business end of hockey better than I do can tell me if this makes any sense or is totally idiotic.

1 problem

Cirelli has to agree to accept an offer sheet, and chances are he isnt going to do it on some penny on the dollars type offer.

If you want him, you are going to have to give him 6m to make it tempting to him, so you will be at the giving up multiple 1st rounders for him....and as a team like Ottawa that would be dangerous to do giving Tampa lottery picks

Killorn has a M-NTC, Johnson, Palat and Gourse have full NTC....you wont be able to bully Tampa into anything

What logical reason would Cirelli have for signing an under valued deal with a team in a place that has an additional 13%provincial tax rate compared to Florida zero state tax?

My guess is Cirelli and JBB already have a deal worked out. It won't be announced until Tampa can get cap compliant.

Both valid points but I was more curious about the concept, not the specific dollar value. And it doesn't have to necessarily be Ottawa, just a team with the desire/cap to make the deal

To get him to agree to an offer sheet its goign to be a massive massive overpayment so the idea of Tampa having to trade a guy like Killorn etc, doesnt matter bc to get Cirelli to even consider an offer sheet its goign to be all higher AAVs thats Killorn, Gourde, Johnson and Palat so they will still wont be cap compliant matching his OS number and then have to move multiple guys off the roster to accommodate to be cap compliant

You cant bully them into a trade with an OS, it just won't happen
