Description
Forsberg fills a big need now and in the future for a top 6 right shot, price is hefty though.

Domo trade retention just shows how much cap the jets would be responsible for this year after acquiring him. Not wanting pitt to retain salary at all in the deal. Dumo gives Pionk and improved physical partner on the top pair.

These trades would give the jets two very good shots at running at the cup. Elite forward group. Excellent defense core. Elite goaltending.

With POJ being ready for a 3rd pair role, Matheson playing above what pens fans even hoped since coming back from injury. So well that the Matheson-Marino pairing had more minutes last game than Letang. This could be a solid trade for the pens. With Niku bringing a younger and cheaper defenseman back that can be a solid depth d with some experience and getting a 1st round pick in next years draft, a 2nd in this years draft, and I’m assuming that’s a prospect. Wouldn’t be a bad haul for the pens at all.

Unless the Pens were out of the playoffs I wouldn't trade Dumo, despite the return.

"Forsberg fills a big need now and in the future . . . "

But Forsberg is signed for only one more year after this one.

Two pretty massive overpays by the Jets for two players they don't really need.

For this return, I absolutely do it. It gives you cap flexibility at the TDL and for next year. Much needed flexibility. So you could pay for a rental upgrade and get a 1st in a decent draft that can be used to draft a solid prospect or used in a trade to upgrade somewhere. Dumo is good and underrated as hell, but he is getting older. If POJ wasn’t ready, Matheson & Ceci weren’t pleasant surprises, then I’d agree that it’s a no. But being able to keep the d depth, getting cap flexibility to upgrade the bottom 6, and getting draft capital could give the team better than Dumoulin likely would.
