Description

Once I saw Connelly on waiver I thought about this.

FLA RW is crowded. Meanwhile it might overcrowd MTL right side, but Armia & Toffoli have played LW this year. Armia most likely will not resign, and it will be confirmed if this trade happens. Still, Toffoli would have to move to LW to make room for Caufield next year (Andersen, Gally, Caufield and Connelly would be the RWs)

All in all, FLA might want this, but MTL might not.

I like this, but I don't think either player would crack their new team's roster. Connolly is more skilled, but I'm not sure where he plays. Byron might also fall out of the lineup due to the same reason Connolly did.

MTL says no because Paul is a leader for this team, he’s an assistant captain. Armia didn’t play a single game on the LW, only Toffoli is being used on the LW. We won’t resign Armia because we need Caufield in the top6-9 next year and Ylönen is Laval best forward and he’s a RW as well.

If I was GM I think I’d take that because Connolly is bigger and fits better on a 4RW than Byron

After reading all the comments and looking at the trade, I would ask the following question. Do you sell your 2010 Ford, to get a 2010 Ford back of a different colour? It is true Caufield is coming and Ylonen is either next year or the year after. So that is 2 forward spots for the top 9. So why move $3.4 to bring back $3.5 to play on the 4th line? makes no sense. Byron is a pocket knife that can play all over the place and he does not make waves. Keep him this year, go as far as you can in the playoff's. Move him next year at a loss. Meaning the other team is not going to give you much back in return. Then bring in a younger cheaper player to play on 4th line.

The only saving grace for Byron is that he truly wants to play here and id take that over the probable better player in Connolly.

Connolly is the better player but sometimes its not about getting the better player, its about getting the right player for the role. I highly doubt Connolly would be happy to play 4th line minutes, Byron shuts up and plays hard wherever he plays.
