Description
Hitting the reset button on the Sabres. Bring in a new management group and a lot more scouts.

In this scenario, pretend the Sabres have the current 3rd overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft where they select a defencemen who should NOT be rushed into the NHL. It could be any of the top end defencemen like Power, Hughes or Clarke. Hughes is the best but Clarke is right-handed so I would take either one of those 2 no matter what pick they get IMO.

  1. Archibald, Josh
  2. Bear, Ethan
  3. Marody, Cooper [RFA Rights]
  4. 2022 2nd round pick (EDM)
  5. 2023 4th round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Reinhart, Sam [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Reinhart comes with a multi-year extension in Edmonton.
2.
BUF
  1. Lind, Kole [RFA Rights]
  2. 2022 4th round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Kole Lind has proven nothing in the NHL so far but in his limited minutes has been solid. Potential high reward situations on both sides but I would say more so for Buffalo.
VAN
  1. Ristolainen, Rasmus ($2,400,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Benning is an idiot, Ristolainen has much more value then he should because he has been bad in Buffalo. He has some skill, maybe Vancouver could get it out of him.
3.
BUF
  1. Chytil, Filip [RFA Rights]
  2. Gauthier, Julien [RFA Rights]
  3. Georgiev, Alexandar
  4. Kakko, Kaapo
  5. Vierling, Evan [Reserve List]
  6. 2022 1st round pick (NYR)
  7. 2023 1st round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
This a VERY good return for the Sabres if they plan on bringing in a new management group (in this case, myself) to hit the reset button. Plenty of young assets who can play in the NHL now or in a few years as well as 2 first round picks (which will probably be late).
NYR
  1. Eichel, Jack
Additional Details:
Not much else to say but this INSTANTLY makes the Rangers a cup contender for many years to come. Although they lost some prospects and picks including Kaapo Kakko, the Rangers still are able to hold onto Alexis Lafreniere, Vitali Kravtsov, K'Andre Miller, Nils Lundkvist and many more soon to be really good NHL players. The Rangers become a little bit more cap-strapped but nothing they can't manage.
4.
BUF
  1. 2022 7th round pick (PHI)
PHI
  1. Eakin, Cody ($1,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Flyers PK was garbage. this is only place Eakin brings any sort of positive value
5.
BUF
  1. 2022 6th round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
Buffalo yet again gets more draft capital (now all they need is some scouts)
CBJ
  1. Sheahan, Riley
Additional Details:
CBJ could use literally anyone right now, Sheahan is cheap and can play hockey.

Personally I wouldn’t want anyone from Buffalo. It took a long long long time to turn around the loosing culture out of Edmonton no offence I think it’s very important for Edmonton to be targeting players that have had more recent team success. Honestly don’t mean that as a knock against Buffalo organization I very much understand the pain going threw.

I too would be a little iffy on Reinhart coming out of that culture into a high pressure market. That said if Nuge walks, Reinhart would be a good addition depending on his extension. That said, I think Buffalo would want more quality/less quantity with the offer. They're giving up bona fide top 6 forward in his prime, none of those pieces fit into the top half of the roster in the return. Either need a first or an A-level prospect and another piece.

In regard to the Ranger trade I think that is pretty fair. I would prefer to send Strome instead of Chytil. I think that helps a bit more with the Cap situation. Maybe one of the 1sts or prospects is removed depending on Eichel's status with whether he is going to be available if he does indeed get the neck surgery. Overall though I think that is in the ballpark.

This era had to be restarted because they angered a superstar so why anger another budding superstar with such a low RFA offer to Dahlin there ^
