Title: "U CANT LEAVE A TEAM WITH UNDER 500K IN CAP" - doesn't realize that with Bogosian and Galchenyuk on the active roster (since they'd require waivers to go down and likely claimed) that the cap space remaining will be $765,217. Not to mention that Joey Anderson likely makes the roster as well so now you're cap space is down to $15,217. Also worth noting that Toronto has had under $500K in cap space most of the last 2 seasons and still operated fine. They know how to move guys up and down and manipulate the cap to make it work for them - oh and they still added at the deadline this year. They're fine with the cap.
Now the trades:
Devils trade is meh. Dermott is a good bottom pair guy with a little upside and defenceman usually take longer than forwards to develop, I wouldn't give up on him yet if Seattle doesn't take him. McLeod really just hasn't had much time in the NHL to adjust. He's played basically a full season and centre is a tough position. I don't think he's been awful but he hasn't been good. At 23 I don't see New Jersey giving up on him unless they get a substantial upgrade and Dermott isn't that yet and Engvall isn't worth anything. - Both teams likely decline.
Nashville trade makes no sense for Toronto. You talk about how bad the Nashville and New Jersey PK are but I guess you don't realize that Toronto finished 24th on the PK last season? Now that's not the best judgement as the PK was much better the last 2.5 months but Mikheyev was a big part of that and moving him doesn't help. Especially for a pure offensive guy like Grimaldi who Toronto just doesn't need. Moving Mikheyev leaves Toronto with not enough PK guys so unless a new PK guy is coming back, Mikheyev stays. - Toronto declines.
That Columbus trade is just disgusting for Toronto. I'm a big fan of Domi going to Toronto and I think he eventually does but not for this kind of overpayment. Why give Columbus that many chances to hit on players when Domi hasn't panned out at all in Columbus? Domi has some value and I likely see it as around a B prospect and a mid round pick. But you've given Columbus far more than that. I mean they'd take it but this doesn't make any sense for Toronto when Domi could be a pure rental. - Leafs decline.
