Description
For my second version of the 2021 offseason, I have the Oilers moving on from Klefbom. For all the trades I already put justifications in the notes sections so I won't explain again here.

For the expansion draft, I have the Oilers bribing Seattle to take Klefbom by giving them Jones and the 4th round pick down the road. I am unsure how LTIR contracts are handled in an expansion draft, but in this scenario it is assumed that Klefbom's contract is taken off of LTIR.

For free agency, I have the Oilers going after the other available Tampa 3rd-liner in Goodrow, there are some reports saying the Oilers are more interested in Goodrow than Coleman, and Coleman may have interest in signing with Dallas as it is his hometown. Goodrow may not produce as much as Coleman but his shutdown game style will eliminate scoring chances.

I have the Oilers also bringing in the other Minnesota right-handed centreman in Bjugstad, I feel Bonino will likely resign with the Wild, leaving Bjugstad available. Since departing Flordia, he hasn't found his stride, but playing alongside Mcleod and Goodrow will compliment his two-way game and in turn generating more scoring chances and transitioning down the ice easier.

For the Dman replacing Klefbom I have the Oilers going after Mike Reilly. Reilly was arguably the best defender (other than Chabot) on the Senators and immediately impacted the Bruins after the deadline. He will slot in with Larsson and serve a similar purpose as Klefbom on the second-pairing.

Lastly, some similar signings I have made include resigning Nuge, Yama, Larsson, Koekoek, and Smith, while also adding Ulmark as their new starting goalie. I have already written about Ulmark so see my first version for my reasonings.

Let me know what you guys think and I will have the last two segments of this series out sometime before the end of the playoffs. Cheers!

Trades
1.
EDM
SEA
  1. Jones, Caleb
  2. Klefbom, Oscar
  3. 2023 4th round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Seattle takes Klefbom in expansion, while also gaining Jones and a 4th RD pick to mitigate the risk of Klefbom not returning to action.
2.
EDM
  1. Tierney, Chris ($1,500,000 retained)
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Tierney has struggled in Ottawa and no longer fits in their long-term plans, trading for Chris is a risk the Oilers can take as he is a UFA at year's end and could produce in a bottom-6 role, the 3rd round pick is added to mitigate the risk.
OTT
  1. Turris, Kyle
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Ottawa receives a familiar face who has struggled since leaving the Senators, Turris has previous success in Ottawa and can act as a leader in the young lockerroom, the second-round pick is added as it is assumed the pick will be late, Turris will see limited ice-time, and Ottawa retains salary
3.
EDM
  1. 2022 4th round pick (PIT)
  2. 2023 5th round pick (PIT)
PIT
  1. Kassian, Zack ($1,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Pittsburgh is desperate for bottom-six help, and they want to prolong the Crosby-Malkin-Letang era. They overpaid for Reaves in the past, so they take on Kassian's contract at a retained price and give late-round picks. Oilers are ridded of his contract and can move Benson and Holloway up the depth chart while regaining draft stock.
4.
EDM
  1. Strome, Dylan
Additional Details:
Mcdavid is reunited with his junior linemate in Dylan Strome and Connor finally has his left winger. Strome is a safe risk as he is also entering his final year of his bridge deal, and he is likely to find his stride alongside Mcdavid. He showed promise immediately after arriving in Chicago, but since 2019, his production dropped. He averaged just under 16 minutes of icetime last season with an on-ice shots through percentage of over 64% over the last two years, so slotted on the first-line should help Mcdavid with generating scoring chances and could be an under-the-radar trigger man.
CHI
  1. Marody, Cooper [RFA Rights]
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Chicago receives a second round pick in an anticipated deep draft class and the AHL's leading goal scorer this year. I've seen other rosters with Strome being acquired for just a second RD pick, but I feel Holland will add a bit more to make the trade go through.

maybe drop the third to like a 5th and id do it as the sens but i dont really see the need to take on turris and retain 1.5m on tierney for only like 20 draft spots

tierney is worth a 3rd with no retention, and a 2nd with 50% retained. Turris is of no interest to ottawa, take him out of the deal and also take out the pick we’re giving up, tierney will most likely just get dealt for a single pick straight up

Not overly keen on Marody, we have a lot of guys in the C pool and have seen a lot of guys kill it in AHL and not come good in the NHL, Dylan Sikura immediately comes to mind from our perspective. Strome is probably worth a 2nd and 3rd currently however his value is at its lowest and it could be beneficial just to keep him.

Would much rather get a 3rd for Tierney with no retention from someone else.

Not interested in eating over 3m for Edmonton and only being compensated by moving up a handful of places from late 3rd to late 2nd...
