I think Carolina would rather keep Geekie and the 3rd because ZAR is looking at pay raise that they don't want to pay for a 3rd/4th liner

If Pens are giving Seattle Kappy. They are taking a lot more than1 season of a Riikola contract, that can be buried anyways. And that is a good depth D-man anyways. He only makes 400K more than league min. Plays both LHD and RHD equally as well. Wasnt healthy last season.

Geekie and a 3rd for ZAR isn’t horrible value but ZAR isn’t gonna make over 1.5M-2M in a new contract. Well worth keeping the best 4th line in the NHL together. Best defensive line in the NHL by all analytics too.

Matheson and Riikola.

And Riikola’s contract can be buried. And it’s only 400K more than league min. Not a bad contract for a NHL D-men that can play both LHD and RHD. He hasn’t healthy last year, besides that, his 1st two seasons, a quality NHL D-man.
