Why would Detroit pay for Beaulieu when they can pick up someone in FA for free, or get assets for taking on a cap dump?

Ouch, so the Jets let Demelo go to Seattle and replace him with Ceci, blech. Jones would be nice but that is too much for a rental that won't re-sign in Winnipeg.

What I like:
Derek Ryan for the 4th. I think the contracts for Pionk and Copp and Matty P are good for both sides and reasonable.

What I’m not crazy about: Forbert at 1.7M. I think this is fair, and he’s a #6 D, so playing on the 3rd pair is good... but I don’t think Stanley is a 2nd pair D man... not yet, maybe never, so big concerns with what he does to the roster. Stastny at over 4M. I think that at 3M, there is value, at 4.5... I worry the cap math won’t work.

What won’t work:
Salary Cap - roster is 3 players short with only 1.2M (or one player) to fill those 3 slots

What I’m not crazy about:
Ceci - at 3M, he’s a big downgrade from Demelo at the same price. I understand that leaving Demelo unprotected keeps Appleton, but I don’t like paying a #6 D $3M per.
The Jones trade. I’m not sure that Jones will play in Winnipeg, and I’m not sure there is enough value going to Columbus to acquire him. Giving up those 3 assets would be fine for Winnipeg IF he can be extended, but without an extension, it’s an overpay for Winnipeg, hurting medium term depth and skill.
Beaulieu trade - not worth a 5th. He’s a depth 6-8 dman, so might be worth a 7th, at best. Jets are likely better off keeping him another year in the press box.
