Additional Details:

OEL contract is risk long term but Arizona want to desperately move him. Oilers can revive him and if they can trade their misery in Neal that will really open the win now window for Oilers and after 3-4 years when cap increase it will be manageable. Bouchard and Broberg have 2 more years in ELC and then 2 more for them on bridge deal. That will leave Oilers with 2 final years of OEL and then it anybody's guess. Defense tend to last longer than forwards so it's a safe bet if Arizona retains some salary.
Recent reports suggest Klefbom won't play this year either so its either LTIR or retirement, otherwise if he plays that means Arizona roll the dice on him.

Gourde is tricky to figure out and for that reason I don’t think he gets traded unless he absolutely must. People seem to put aside the idea that he’s actually extremely good and effective because of his age and contract however his value to the TBL is immense. A Gourde trade would likely generate little return and would have the Bolts suffering without their secret weapon. I’d try and keep him at all costs.

Oilers decline the OEL deal
Your explanation seems sound but you forgot about a Nurse extension this trade hampers that greatly and Broberg’s not going to be on the 3rd pair for the next 5-6 yrs, OEL struggled this yr being on the second pair the oilers need to stay clear of him.
