Description
Some people think he has zero or negative value. But some people also haven't watched him play so as someone who watched all 54 of his games on a Vancouver team that finished 7th in the North, this dude is a legit, mobile, strong Top 4 guy and should be playing on a team that is contending for the cup (or Columbus). Agreed his contract is scary though.

While Schmidt is a decent top 4 D, he isn’t worth $6 million. So unless you can find someone as stupid as Ken Holland, you’re not moving him unless you take another bad contract in return.

Bruins and Panthers decline. Better uses for the cap space.

Yeah we need forwards and have 2 good to really good left shot defenseman. Don’t need more. I’ll give you the 4th by itself. That’s as high as I’ll go.

While he's a good player, value is all dependent on what others (GMs) think of him. I personally think he's really good, had a terrible situation last year and will bounce back, however his contract is pretty bad (if he was playing at his potential it would probably be ok but it's an overpay for sure).

If Benning is selling low on him, can't expect to get much in return. VAN doesn't have a ton of leverage as it's gotten out that player and team want to move on and after his play last season paired with his contract and the economics across the league, I just don't think you'll get fair value back. It's similar to Kuzy situation in my opinion - last year was brutal for him and now that they've tried to see what the market is for him it seems like they're not getting near the return they expected. It's why I think they should hold onto Kuzy even if they want to move him at some point since it's likely he'll bounce back in a more normal season and net a higher return.

Vancouver gave up a 3rd round pick in a weak draft. I can't see how he's worth more than that after this last season.

He can have a lot of value if Vancouver retains but right now I think he has zero value.
