Does montreal really need eichel???
People might think i'm stupid but i say no, montreal does not need eichel. they don't need him because the canadiens have many top line centres like Dvorak, Suzuki and caufield (can play centre if either Dvorak or suzuki gets injured). also, trading to get eichel is very risky, might lose some very key pieces that will hurt your chances of getting a 25th stanley cup. and montreal is set to be playoff contenders. in the end montreal does not need eichel.

Caufield isn't going to fill in at centre at the NHL level...
I don't think MTL needs Eichel now with Dvorak. You have a 1C in Suzuki and a 2C in Dvorak. What you need is for either Poehling or Evans to develop into a 3C or acquire someone to play that role. I am personally not very high on either Poehling or Evans, and I think MTL at some point in the future are either going to trade for or sign a 3C in free agency.

Your answer is right, but your reasoning is wrong.

Montreal doesn’t have any top line centers. Dvorak is a number 3 that can play as a 2 in a limited capacity. Suzuki may well be a 1, but he’s a 2 right now. Caufield is a winger that’s played 10 regular season games. Settle down.

The habs don’t need eichel because with or without, they’re not a serious contender. Makes far more sense for them to build from within.

Dvorak is an average 2C and Caufield.....no, he's not a C

Any team in the league needs eichel lol. But MTL has a 1C with Suzuki and a 2C with Dvorak, Caufield would get demolished at the center spot.

theres maybe 4 or 5 teams in the whole league that you could argue dont need eichel and that would only be because they have two top center with a better cap structure. Caufield can not play center in the nhl (and never will) i dont understand where that thought even comes from. MTL 100% could use eichel and about every other trade rumored center out there. If they wanted to have the ability to have the playoff success they had last year Dvorak would ideally but the 3c, suzuki the 2c and a legit number 1.
