Description
The turnover continues. Rask is a C, it’s unlikely he plays there in MIN so I think a Bjugstad type deal to get him ice time happens before the season. Greenway knows he’s in a contract year and GMs value size, hard to see him not being moved at some point given that combo. I would like to see Sturm extended, but if he winds up down the middle it’s going to be nigh impossible to resign him. If a playoff bidder comes with something higher than a 2nd, it’s time to move on.

The big wild card is Fiala. I think the Wild like him and want to resign him. I don’t know if the Wild can make the long term cap work though, it’s hard to see him not being moved before the start of next season.

It’s still early in camp but I think there is a sense in the prospects that they have a real shot. Specifically the older guys. Continuing to open spots in St Paul will only drove those guys to get better and the roster is set up for a good number of them to be regulars next year.
Trades
1.
MIN
  1. 2022 7th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
With Crosby and Malkin out, and a not great pipeline to replace them, Rask is *A* C that could fill in until they’re back. Pick is for retention.
PIT
  1. Rask, Victor ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
I get the sense BG would rather have an extra spot in the lineup to give some younger guys a taste.
2.
MIN
  1. 2022 1st round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
IDK, this just feels right. It’s unlikely we’re able to resign Greenway next year and if MTL is anywhere near the playoff chase I think they go scorched earth.
3.
MIN
Would not surprise me to see him get moved at the TDL as it’s unlikely he’s affordable next year, especially if he moves in between Foligno and Hartman. The return would have to be pretty substantial to make it happen though.
    MTL
    1. Sturm, Nico
    Additional Details:
Open roster spot allows a guy like Chaffee/Dewar/Duhaime/Swaney a direct path if they’re ready or a way to entice Ben Meyers to sign after the NCAA season is over.

Montreal can't trade that pick. It is part of conditions from the Dvorak trade.

They can trade it under the condition that it is the pick not used to satisfy the Dvorak trade condition.

Montreal might give you a 2023 first if they're in a playoff spot.

I can't see Montreal adding a winger. Something would have to go seriously wrong to put us in that position. Even then, MB will be searching in the bargain bin for a rental, not a high priced RFA.

Probably looking at a different team for either trade.

This is good value for the habs, the only issue is that Greenway might not even play higher than the 4th line because of how much depth the habs have on the wing.

They’d be much better off putting assets toward a D or maybe a C.
