Description

The way things are going, this IS going to be a top 10 (minimum) draft choice in next year’s draft. Essentially, the Seth Jones acquisition will be remembered in hockey alongside the Kessel to Toronto trade that gifted the Bruins Seguin at #2 and the Avs trading duchene and getting byram at #4. So my question now is: what trade will be viewed in hindsight as worse, the panarin trade or the boqvist (I refuse to even acknowledge it as the Jones trade anymore since he hasn’t showed his worth)? Moreover, in the long run, what does this do to become relevant again? Toews and Kane are gone soon and the talent left over doesn’t come close to being a cup contender.

It sure is a hard sell but I don't think Jones has been all bad. The team is bad and I think the coaching system has something to do with it. We also have had no puck luck the last 2 games in which we have out shot the opponents and kept them to 25 or less shots. our 5 on 5 play is likely the worst in the league currently. If this continues we may get a shot at Wright and send next years pick to CBJ.

The “Boqvist” trade feels different from the ones you mentioned because it was immediately met with skeptics and almost universally hated by the hardcore fanbase. I almost think it’s more like the Karlsson trade than anything else, except Karlsson was still good at the time of his trade or something. Our only hope right now is that they keep on tanking and eventually retain their pick through some hardcore lottery luck. I say this because I don’t see a realistic way in which they can climb back into the playoff race EVEN if a lot of central teams are struggling to pick up W’s right now.
