Description

We can fit everybody under the cap and still be a contending team. Here's how:

Fiala - identical money to Zuccarello, Ehlers, Hall but less term so he can cash in as a 28-yo UFA
Kähkönen - identical contract to Saros' deal in 18-19

The best way to acquire money if we need to make a trade for a rental is to trade Gaudreau, plus the cap might even go up by a million.

In 23-24, we have 13,8 million (assuming the cap stays flat) and the ending contracts are Boldy (RFA), Duhaime (RFA), Addison (RFA), Talbot (UFA), Dumba (UFA), Kulikov (UFA) and Gaudreau (UFA). That's manageable with a few bridge deals (Addison) and hometown discounts (Dumba, perhaps Talbot or Kulikov if they want to stay)

Buying out Parise/Suter was the right move. Without the buyouts, we'd pay them a total of 15 million for four seasons, plus there would be a possibility of cap recapture penalties if either of them retired early. This way, we get cost-certainty, a bit of breathing room and a new, fresh leadership group for the future.

Eriksson Ek absolutely remains a Wild for at least the next seven years - he is a crucial part of our team and the best center before Rossi takes over as the number uno. His contract is also a steal.

Sticky. If Fiala signs that I'll be really happy. Same with Kahkonen. I think it's becoming more likely Talbot is the odd man out. He's on a decent contract, but if you can save $3M in cap space by trading him for picks and sign a cheap backup, I think we might have to do that.

Would suck to see Sturm walk, too, but that also is a likely scenario unless he comes back for really cheap.

I’d prefer to trade Freddy and keep sturm personally, but the wild are going to need another elc/cheap defensemen or else tabor off the books after next season. I imagine dumba will resign with a slight discount since he loves it in mn so much and brodin makes up for a lot of his defensive lapses.
