Edmonton and NYR might accept. Everyone else declines pretty easily

Habs reject Anaheim trades, Dallas trade, Edmonton and potentially the Nashville trade. Weber retiring as a Hab before the end of his contract would put the Preds in a bad situation. That pick needs to be higher.

Weber retiring no matter where he is initiates the recapture on Nashville. Nashville can’t keep him from retiring. Montreal can’t force him to retire. Nashville has zero incentive to get Weber. If weber wants to work for the Canadians organization, pronger has set precedent that this can be done while he’s under contract. Dumbest thing Nashville could do is pay anything for Weber and then he just retires anyways. He’s either going to retire and Nashville gets hit with cap recapture which sucks but we will manage it or he rides ltir as a Hab. Really not much middle ground unless there’s a team out there like Arizona that wants that caphit so they can penny pinch on contracts.

Anyways, Nashville doesn’t trade L’Heureux. Poile literally just traded up for him and he’s having a great year which should only cement his value as a 1st rounder.

I could see us having some interest in Kulak or Drouin. Kulak would be decent depth should Borowiecki get hurt and Drouin would bolster our forward depth but the ask here is too much for a team that is in retool mode and not win now mode.

The recapture can be reduced if Nashville takes Weber's contract. IF he retires early, every year he spends with Nashville will result in money being subtracted from the current $24M penalty.
If he retires 1 year early with Montreal, that penalty stays at $24M. If he retires 1 year early with Nashville, that penalty is reduced to a few million.

You can debate the rest, but there is in fact a reason Nashville might want to get Weber's contract.
