Additional Details:
Net years draft is too strong. If they get a 2nd or 3rd round pick for McBain it’s gonna be in ‘23. I don’t understand why GMs just let him walk from a Minny and go after him as a UFA.??

A 5th doesn't clear the difference imo. Connor Brown is a much better player.

Kasperi Kapanen is not a player I would target at all for Ottawa.

As a separate point, I would be interested in John Marino if he's available.

Even then Marino is not really needed as we have Thompson and JBD comming up, that deal is terrible for Ottawa, also why would the Pens trade Marino?

Marino ranks 3rd on the team in ice-time. A right-handed defensemen who can move the puck, skate out of trouble, has a high hockey IQ, has play-off experience and is just 24 years old. They don’t grow on trees. Pens could get more for him in the future too.

And he’s signed long term. Till 2027. And making 4.4M per. For what D-man are getting paid nowadays. That’s a steal.

And I just can’t see a world where they trade Marino. With Letang being a UFA this offseason and the most unlikely of Geno-Letang-Rust to sign an extension. And the next best RHD on the team being Ruhwedel and a guy in the AHL named Maniscalco.

And sorry, but that’s the world we live in right now.

Done by Detroit's perspective, Pettersson is a useful top 4 LD for the next 3 years until the kids are ready.

Kappy’s younger, cheaper(his QO this offseason is 875K but has arbitration rights, probably will get 2.25M-3M per; he won’t get the 3.2M he’s getting now unless he picks it up and gets hot for acouple weeks).

Kappy super talented too. Undeniable on the ice. Fast as hell, great shot, good playmaker, good 200 foot player, good on PK, good on the PP, plays physical and “hits” more than enough(has 81 “hits” this season so far).

Is he in the doghouse and playing inconsistent.? Yes. But every shift he plays you still can’t miss him. Does he try and make too many behind the back passes and take stupid penalties that really bother Sully..? Yes.

But he’s still a .5 PPG player when playing poorly. That’s a good “floor”and a “floor” a lot of NHL wingers would kill for. Let him get hot for acouple weeks and he’s a 20 goal scorer again. And last season had 30 points in 40 games(.75PPG).

People think on capfriendly cause he’s in the doghouse; and was a healthy scratch one night. It makes him a bottom 6 or something.

Even though, the next night he was back on Carter line(3rd line) and still is. Sully just wanted to send a message and try to get him going. It’s not even an unusual thing to happen to young players. Doesn’t make him a bottom 6.

He was on the 2nd line all last season on a play-off team;30 points in 40 games(.75PPG). And just got moved to the 3rd line for E-Rod who’s having a great season and is gonna score 20 plus goals this yr.(17 goals so far). Kappy’s a mid-6 on a good, play-off team, at worst.
