Description
MTL wins 2nd OA behind PHI who steals #1 in the Draft Lotto IMO
Hughes trades #2OA to BUF who drew 6th OA and 18th OA

Nemec fixes our RD depth longterm joing Barron and Mailloux as top 3 RD prospects
Hughes has Chemistry established with Harris and Struble as a bonus and will fit nicely in our depth chart as a Eller like Center who offensively contributes but his Faceoffs and DZ play is what he'll becomes a work horse for MTL(High NHL upside according to Dobber with slim hopes for top 6 role)

Why would Hughes do this?
Not for the reasons you'd think as whether he takes his son with that 2nd pick or another player the motivation here is to trade down for a player we need rather then drafting them early like MB did and risking a bust of a top 3 pick for the 3/3rd time since Molson took Ownership(its just a safer approach)

Why i think he'll take his son is cause he's got Chemistry with some of our D already but also because of the timing of his development. He'll be ready for the NHL in his 1st or 2nd year pro likely starting in the AHL right around when Evans and Dvoraks deals are up. With the Center depth we have i think its just a smart move unless a Savoie ,Cooley or Lambert somehow falls to this pick then Hughes is just the best option available in that position

As great as a Slafkvosky or Savoie would be at #2 OA i just dont think they're as needed as Nemec will be going forward. Worst Case Scenario Jiricek is a RD ranked similar to Nemec who is more of a Edmundston then a Petry type but still would address our biggest issue. We can always take Ingram with the CGY pick who offers similar upside to Slafkvosky but is much further behind as he switched from Junior to USHL exploding in their system. He's had a huge growth spirt but hasnt put on any weight yet but has adjusted well to his 3 inches in height he gained so im expecting that will continue as he packs on muscle. He'll take 2-3 years longer to get to the NHL but if developed Properly he's got size and speed with good hands

By Trading this pick Hughes in 1 draft will have filled all MTL's holes for the next 3 years at all levels with 2 firsts in the next draft to boot. Keep selling off Veterans and using our cap to our advantage without wasting it on UFA's until we see where all our youth are at.

After this season is done (2022-23) then MTL will take the cap they've acquired with 5m coming off Goalie's contracts alone coupled with the 6.6m already cleared. Some will go to Caufield although about 6 months after he signs Hoffman and Eddy will be traded unless we're serious contenders and they make themselves indesposable. This also leaves room for youth in the AHL to come up and push players out provoking a trade early. In the end a lot relies on Nemec or Jiricek making a NHL debut within 1-2 years of being drafted which is a pretty tall order i admit

  4. 2024 3rd round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Dont know who Back is but couldnt resist the future line in Laval of Tuch-Mysak-Back hahaha. I saw it and i just knew he had to be included

IF DAL wins the cup before 2024 draft then the 3rd round pick in 2024 becames a 1st round pick in 2024
DAL
  1. Petry, Jeff
Additional Details:
Capwise 5.5/6.25 is covered for year 1 with 3.25/6.25 years 2 & 3
The same time it hits a 3.25/6.25 Joe Pavelski will likely take another 1-2m decrease in pay as he hits 38 all for that Full 100% NMC he covets

Cap wise there's no reason this cant work unless DAL is re-signing Radulov to a similar contract which i assumed at most you'd give him 3-4m on a 1-2 year deal given he's about to turn 36(if like Joe he was still playing PPG hockey maybe but he's at 1/3rd his production when signing with less points in his last 3 years then either of his first 2 years)
2.
MTL
  1. Benson, Tyler [RFA Rights]
  2. 2024 4th round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Byron, Paul ($1,700,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Byron @1.7m to a contender at the TDL
If Weise can land Danault and a 2nd
If Shaw can land two 2nd's (one became Debrincat)
If Paul can land Joseph and a 4th

Then Paul Byron should have no issues getting a 2nd or a player 25 or under who's B+ to A- with a 4th round pick.

I'm going with Benson who might bust or could fit in perfectly beside Suzuki and Caufield, who knows. I think he is less valuable then Joseph was but i also believe this is middle ground all teams can live with

I chose EDM as i think he fits that system
He's got good offense but its his Defense/Leadership EDM needs in reality and he could help there. Overall its a cheap rental who might re-sign for peanuts

You can't do that on Petry, retention has to be the same for all 3 years. You can't retain $725,000 for year 1 and then $3,000,000 for years 2-3 that's not how it works. Retention has to be the same for all 3 years. And no way is Hughes retaining $3,000,000 on Petry for 3 years.

EDM doesn't really have space for Byron even at 1.7mil. The issue for them is going to be trying to keep their top-6 together and adding a 4th line guy at 1.7mil only hurts that. No issue with Byron as a player but it'd have to be to a different team due to the specific nature of EDM's cap situation.

The habs dont even remotely consider that horrible dallas trade.

The price to dump khudobin would be just shy of a 2nd (he is making over 3 million and 4 million is threshold that has been established by several dump trades as when a 2nd is involved) so the trade is essentially petry for faksa and a 5th.

Petry may be a bit overpaid but faksa is a 4th line player making 3.25 million he is easily making 2x his value.

I would much rather keep petry and overpay on my very hard to find top 4 RD than a relatively easy to find 4c

Bro you're high
I explained the impact of the Cap dumps taken as they'd apply
Why ?
Cause EVERY post i do about Petry the 1st thing DAL fans say
"The cap dont work"

SMH Wow. . .

That makes no sense he makes 41,463 a game so thats the cap hit he'll take for each game
At Most we'll say what 30 games which makes that 1.2m before RS of 50%
That would leave EDM with an actual cap hit on Byron at 600k

Teams dont acquire the entire cap for the year when they take on the contract
The take on what is remaining on the salary it doesnt restart the clock
Or atleast that's what this site and the NHL say

Some reading to catch you up as if you dont know this
I can only imagine how bad the trade on your Armchair GM has been
