Yes I’ve been in favor of this type of deal for a while. Hope he rebounds, trade him for 50% retained at deadline. If not , it buys you a year to let Wright develop a bit more

Except I think you switch the picks. CGY can’t keep him with their 2 big players they need to sign.

I'd be very weary of Monahan. Hip injuries/surgeries are normally the kiss of death. Kucherov, Pastrnak, and to a certain extent Seguin are the 3 notable exceptions. Toss in his history of wrist injuries and the steadily declining production since the 2018-19 season and it's quite a gamble. Only thing that mitigates it is that he only has 1 year remaining on the contract.

Regardless, I still wouldn't give up a 3rd in the deal.
