Description
Well, I made this a couple days ago in preparation of a Caps loss, but wasn’t expecting to hear about Backstrom. Him possibly being done would throw a wrench in the plans, but it may be a blessing in disguise with the potential cap space saved. This ACGM will be on the premise that he retires or is at least done for quite some time, possibly after the start to next season.

Lapierre starts in Hershey and will be called up at some point this year for injuries. Let him mature a bit in Hershey and then keep him up if he proves himself.

Hopefully the same situation for Iorio as Lapierre, but I sort of doubt it.

Caps pick Miroschnichenko with their 1st pick as a high risk, high reward gamble. He should hopefully be ready before the contending window closes.

For backup, I'd go for Comrie if he manages to somehow slip into free agency, but the more realistic option is Wedgewood. If he struggles, I'd let Fucale or Copley get another shot and if that doesn't work, head to the trade market.

This scenario should leave plenty of space to either make another big move this year or next year after the extensions to Orlov and Fehervary.

Not sure what teams need a 3C so this could be any team, more about simply opening a spot up for others

Additional Details:
Loved Sheary, but his value won’t get higher and Washington should look to open more spots for guys like Protas. Edmonton could benefit from some consistent, cheap middle 6 line depth and Sheary fits that bill.

If buffalo decides to move someone, I'd be fine with Eller as a 4c.

Fine with the goalie trade too

That's a big risk to take on Nichuskin, I'd also expect Samsonov to get a bit more money. What's with Backstrom on LTIR (though that doesn't affect this ACGM, you have the cap space to activate him)?

Doubt the Caps would move Eller if Backstrom is out, they're going to want some experience down the middle.

If you have an extra $8M you need to go after bigger fish. Nich won't cost that much neither.

Backstrom at his press conference was saying that his hip will never be 100% again, and the way he phrased it has lead people to believe he may not play again. It sounds like he will be having surgery on it, and I wonder if he’ll even be ready come the start of the season. For Cap reasons, DC could send a player down if he comes back before enough LTIR space is accrued should they need to.
